We’re all responsible for our choices, if we’re lucky enough to make them.

I worked my ass off at a small marketing firm. As a Senior VP of Mountainside Marketing, I’ve found so much joy in helping local businesses build their brand. I’ll never make the kind of money that Daniel Fairmont III does, but I don’t care; I prefer to keep my soul.

Jase and I were married a year after leaving Thunder, in a small ceremony at the City Hall. His mother was there, and a few close friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

I change into my dress in the back room, smoothing down my hair and making sure my makeup hasn’t run all over my face. When I step onto the floor, Jase whistles.

“Damn, who is that sexy woman?”

“Your wife.” I spin in a circle. “You like the dress?”

“I fuckinglovethat dress.” He grabs me around the waist and pulls me close to him. The stiffness pressing against me signifies his approval. “But the truth is that I can’t wait to see you out of it.“

“Jase, I’m naked all the time. Please just appreciate the dress.” I whisper in his ear. “I got it on sale.”

Jase laughs and nuzzles my neck, tickling me with his beard. I push him off before I get too distracted, though it’s tempting to leave the door locked for an extra few minutes so he can have his way with me in the back room before our guests arrive. There just isn’t time.

As I watch him walk away, I think to myself how wonderful my life is and how different it could’ve been if I never would’ve risked going to the bar that night. Fate took me there, and Jase brought me home.

“Hey,” I call out. “I love you.”

“Oh, baby. I couldn’t love anyone more than I love you.” He blows me a kiss and heads to unlock the front door. My princess days may be over, but it doesn’t matter. With Jase, I feel more like a queen.
