Hope

THREE MONTHS LATER:

I’ve been waiting for this since the second I left Rex’s office that day. After non-stop work on my game, not to mention the nine to five assisting the programmers department, I’ve finally reached the end of my internship. I can barely contain myself. I bought a new dress just for the occasion. Red and silky. And all for Rex Jamison.

I haven’t spoken to him since that day. Well, that’s not entirely true. He’s sent me a dozen red roses every Friday for the last three months with no words but a countdown of weeks left until we can see each other. He’s left me no time to doubt his interest, but plenty of time to perfect my game. He even walked it into the board’s latest pitch meeting for me. Though I haven’t heard a word about how it went.

I’m grateful to be out of rush hour foot traffic and into the building. With my coffee cup in hand, I head for the elevator. Just like my first day, no one’s here yet; I’m so early that even the security guard is just getting on post. I give him a little wave.

I push the call button on the elevator and hop right inside. I untie my coat and smooth down the red silk dress. Just as the doors are about to close, a familiar gigantic hand stops them, sending them back wide. My teeth gnash into my bottom lip. I immediately run my tongue across them, knowing full good and well that I just doused them in red lipstick.

Rex stands before the double wide elevator doors, a sly smile spread across his glorious lips. “Well, hello there Miss Nichols.” He says, and steps inside immediately filling the small car with his unmistakably clean scent. My panties ignite.

“Mr. Jamison…I mean, Rex.” I say, and give him a wink.

“Oh, yes.” He says furrowing his brow. “Hope is it?”

“Hope it is.” I smile as the elevator door closes us in.

Rex angles his body toward mine, pressing himself into me. “I’ve been waiting for this day.”

“That makes two of us.”

“A wise woman once said it takes two to tango.” His raspy voice sends shivers down my spine. There’s no mistaking the massive erection pressing up against me, which seconds that motion.

“Do you feel like a tango?” I rise onto my toes and whisper. “MisterJamison?”

Rex growls and starts to lower his lips to mine, but stops midway through. “Why, Hope?”

“Why what?”

“Why the hell would you wear red lipstick?”

“You don’t like it?”

“I love it. You look like a fucking sex kitten. And that dress. Dear God.” The shade of red rising to my cheeks rivals the tone of the dress.

“Then what is it?”

“I can’t very well go into my office with a red stained mouth.”

“Oh…oh!” I say, my eyes widening. “Well, then I guess you’ll just have to wait.”

“I’ve waited for three months, beautiful.”

“This was your idea.”

“I did it all for you.”

I eye the gorgeous man towering over me looking as though he’d like to gobble me up on the spot. It’s fun to play a little power game with the boss. “Tonight.” I say.

“I have plans.”

“What?” My voice rises to an uncomfortable pitch. So much for playing it cool.

“With my girlfriend. I’m taking her to dinner to celebrate the success of her game acquisition.” My mouth bobs open and closed like a fish. It takes me way longer than it should to put all of the pieces together. He presses a finger to his lips. “Shhh! Don’t tell her. It’s a surprise.”
