The worst part about it is that I feel bad for him.

“Ugh!” I say and slither down until my head touches the pillow. I pull the duvet over my still naked body and squeeze my eyes shut. My plan has officially backfired. I’m more worked up than ever.

Unable to sleep, I get up and shower hoping that will cool me down a little. It isn’t until nearly five o’clock that my eyelids grow heavy as I listen to Ross and Rachel argue about whether or not they were on a break.

Thank God for continental breakfast. I have just enough time to grab a muffin and a cup of coffee before hopping in my car and heading a bit further downtown for my interview. My eyes sting from lack of sleep, and as much as I try to focus on what I’m going to say to impress John Rockford, the CEO of Magic Media PR, I can’t get the comfort of Jack’s body pressed against mine out of my head. Not a good look going into the most important interview of my life.

I pull into the parking garage, finish the rest of my now cold coffee, and take a deep breath. “You’ve got this, Sierra.” I slather on a coat of my favorite natural lip gloss, unable to ignore the bags under my eyes that even a pound of concealer couldn’t do away with.

I do have this. I’ve done all my research. I know everything about John Rockford’s climb to success, how he started this company from his mom’s basement and worked his way up until it became one of the most sought-after PR firms in the country. Even though I’ve never seen a picture of the man, the myth, the legend himself, I belong here, and now I just have to get in there and show them that.

Pumped and confident, I head into the skyscraper that holds Magic Media PR. The office is even more beautiful than I thought it would be. Its modern design and monochromatic color scheme actually feels welcoming, not cold like some other big firms—all of which I’ve interviewed at. This is the cake, baby, and I’m here for my piece.

The receptionist shows me to the conference room where they’re conducting the interview. “Have a seat, Miss Alvarez.” She hands me a bottle of water. “Mr. Rockford’s running a few minutes late. He’ll be right with you.”

“Thank you.” I say, butterflies dancing in my ribcage. I pull out my laptop and fire up the presentation I’ve prepared. Five minutes later…still no John Rockford.

“What the hell?” I mutter to myself and take a long swig of water. My heart threatens to race away from me. For every minute I’m left in here waiting, my anxiety grows stronger and stronger.

Finally, when I think I may have to excuse myself and use the bathroom, the door opens. I close my eyes for one final breath, then paint on a smile. I set my laptop on the table in front of me and spin around to face the man who holds my future in his hands.

My face falls the minute I meet a familiar pair of golden-brown eyes. “Jack?” Try as I may, I can’t breathe. How is this even possible?

Jack

The last personI expect to see in the interview this morning is Sierra, but she is a sight for sore eyes. Standing there in her perfectly fitted skirt and blouse, which perfectly hugs every curve on her voluptuous frame, she’s even more beautiful today than I remember her being last night. Though the look on her face is as if she’s seen a ghost. Me, the ghost of last night past.

“Wait a minute.” She leans on the back of the chair. “You’re John Rockford?” She narrows her bright blue eyes. “How? You told me your name was Jack.”

“It is.” I clear my throat.

“It is what?” She sits into one hip. “Jack or John?”

“It’s both.” I step forward, breathing in her intoxicating scent once more. The woman does things to me I’ve only read about in dirty magazines. “John is my legal name, but my friends and family all call me Jack.” Sierra lets out a little huff. The sudden burst of wind blows a strand of her bright blonde hair away from her face.

Last night comes back to me in a series of flashbacks. Her soft, naked body pressed up against mine. The way she moaned when I brought her to climax. Her tight walls milking my length until I couldn’t take it anymore.

She hasn’t left my mind since I left her hotel room. She definitely put a spell on me, but I’m also not used to being rejected like that. I clear my throat in an attempt to regain my composure. “Are you here for the interview?”

A tiny laugh escapes her mouth. “Why else would I be here?”

My chest constricts. Of course, she’s here for the interview. A woman doesn’t kick you out of their hotel room and then seek you out the next day.

Unless, of course, she knew who I was when she went to bed with me. My fists clench at my sides. The idea of her sleeping with me to get a job hurts me more than it should. A fit of rage boils in my gut, and I have to get out of this room before I punch a hole in the wall.

I head toward the door, but Sierra’s voice stops me. “You’re leaving?”

“I think this interview was over before it started.”

“Oh hell no.” She jumps in front of the door, blocking my path. “I am not about to lose the chance to work here because I fucked you last night.”

“Jesus Christ, keep your voice down.”

“I won’t!” She crosses her arms over her chest, lifting her full breasts up an inch. The gesture makes my mouth water.
