I squeeze past her, whispering ‘sorry’ and hurry to the nearest empty seat.
“That wasn’t a kiss, you still owe me.” I groan at the sound of the Prince’s voice in my ear. What the fuck did I do so wrong to deserve this kind of karma today?I ask the universe as I sink further into my seat, ignoring the Royal sitting behind me.
The lecturer explains everything we’ll be learning in this class, along with the fact that we’ll have to work in pairs for the first assignment which she explains is due at the end of the week. I groan as the douche behind me, claps a hand on my shoulder and whispers, “Looks like you’ll have plenty of time in my company after all.”
The second the lecturer, who’s name I didn’t catch, says we can leave, I’m out of my seat and powering through the door before anyone else. I pull my map from my bag and double check where my next class is; Physics, otherwise known to vamps as Power Control. With a sigh, I head down the stairs and into the basement level of the building, my eyes scanning every door I pass until I reach classroom Sixty-nine. I let out a giggle at that but there’s no one around to see or hear me make a fool of myself. I’m almost twenty minutes early for Physics so I just lean my back against the wall opposite the door and wait.
Not even five minutes passes before people start showing up. Every single one of them looks excited to be here, but I’m not feeling it. Playing around with my powers runs the risk of people finding out I’m not your average vampire. We all have elemental Fae powers, but usually you only have one power not three like me.
Fire is my strongest, so I usually stick to fire, but I also have water and air elemental powers. To top off my weirdness, I also have psionic abilities which is supposedly unheard of. My psionic powers so far include; Psychokinesis, Psychoportation and minor telepathy, which means when I’m fully charged up, like I am now, I can move objects with my mind, teleport short distances and read some thoughts of weaker minds, unfortunately I haven’t had much luck doing any of that willingly. Every single time they’ve been activated has been an accident. An unintentional reaction that has saved my life a few times.
I’m hoping this university has someone else with psionic abilities so that I can learn control without having to be the odd vampire of the group.
Dead on eleven a guy opens the door to the Physics classroom and everyone files into the room.
My gasp is lost among the rest of the students as I get my first glimpse of the magically altered room. To a human the room would look like a normal lecture room, but to Fae it looks exactly like what it is, a training room. The walls are lined with spell markings and padding. The floor is covered in a special foam like substance that absorbs elemental powers and the ceiling is coated in the same substance with the addition of the same symbols that cover the walls. As the door closes behind the last person to enter the room, a gong sounds drawing everyone’s attention to the podium at the front.
“Alright class, here’s how it’ll go; I’ll call your name, you come down to me and we’ll record and announce your elemental powers and place you into a group. Once we’ve gotten through everyone here, we’ll then have everyone move to the sides of the room and we’ll see how far along everyone is with their control over their elements.” I glance down at my timetable and take note of the lecturer’s name. Professor Constantine Barris. I’m curious if he’s any relation to the Prince, but not curious enough to ask.
I watch him closely as he begins calling out names from his list, two at a time. My brows disappear into my hairline as he calls out Princess, followed by Kal. Both guys saunter up to the podium, Prof Barris writes something into the book in front of him, then calls out, “Fire to the front left, Water to the front right.” The entire class goes silent as we watch Kal walk to the right and Princess to the left. Several more names are called before he stumbles over the next two, “Prince Samuel Barris and Alissa Collis.” I stumble over my own feet as I make my way between people to the podium. Swallowing roughly, I let Prince Douche speak first, “Fire and Psionic.” He says, making my jaw drop. The prof clears his throat a few times before Samuel nudges me in the ribs, whispering, “Your turn babe.”
“Fire and Psionic.” I mutter as more of a question than a statement.
“Yes, yes, his highness’s abilities are impressive, but I need to know what your abilities are.” His voice carries to the rest of the room and snickers break out making my cheeks turn pink.
“I just told you. Fire and Psionic.” I hiss, feeling my face go even redder.
“Impossible, only royals have psionic abilities.” The prof scoffs. Feeling stupid for even bothering to try to convince him, I turn on my heel and walk away, ignoring his calls to tell him my abilities. I lean my back against the far wall of the room and cross my arms beneath my breasts. Without saying a word, I flicker from where I am to the podium and raise my brows waiting for the douche of a professor to realise I’m not in fact lying about what my abilities are. When he just stands there staring at me, I lift my hand and bring a fireball to my palm, it floats above his head before turning into a wisp of smoke as I extinguish it. Feeling really pissed off, I then float the book he’s been writing in off the podium followed by the pen. Using only my psionic abilities, I write my name, followed by my powers (omitting the ones I didn’t show off with so I don’t make things worse for myself) and then let the book fall to the floor with a bang that has everyone jumping.
“Asshole.” I growl before flickering back to the other side of the room and leaning against the wall again.
I blink and suddenly Prince Douche is right beside me, his shoulder brushing mine. “Looks like we have more in common than I thought.” He whispers with a wink as the Professor finally stops staring at me and starts working his way through the rest of the students.
“Just who are you Red?”
“Just someone unlucky enough to have more than one ability.” I mutter turning my back on him so I’m looking towards Princess instead.
“You still owe me that kiss, but considering you’re royal, technically you haven’t broken any laws.” Prince Douche says moving back into my line of sight.
“Not a royal.” I growl, turning my back to him again. I end up facing Kal, who’s staring at me as though I’ve grown two heads. I turn back to face the Prince and ask, “Why are you even here?”
“Because this is the best University in the entire world.” He puffs his chest out like he deserves the best of everything, in reality it just makes him look like a pompous ass.
“Nothereat the Uni,herebothering me.”
“Oh, Professor said I should stick with you. We both have the same abilities so we’ll have to work together most of the time.” He smirks at me and I roll my eyes. “Just my fucking luck.” I grumble under my breath.
“What line are you from?” he asks, getting into my personal space again.
“I told you, I’m not a royal.” I huff.
“And I’m calling bullshit. Only royals have psionic powers.”
“Well your information is obviously wrong. I’m not now, nor have I ever been related to any royals. I’m a tenth generation Vampire on my mother’s side and….” I trail off as I realise I can’t say any more. If I say it, he’ll know I’m not a full blood vampire and I don’t want anyone knowing.
“And on your father’s side?” He prods.
“I don’t know who my father was.” I mutter, turning away from his searching gaze.
