“Greer Delta,” he said, his gaze not straying from hers.

She didn’t even flinch. So the other possibility surfaced. She had no idea who Greer was or who had killed her brother. It made sense. The military or police department wouldn’t have released the details. That led him back to thinking her story might be true.

Yet somehow he felt like she knew who he was, and the story was all fabricated. If she did know who he was, she was an extremely impressive actress and weaseling her way into his life to avenge Travis. He’d played right into that by offering her a stay at his house. He thought it was still smart, though, to keep her close and find out who was really behind all this. No way this innocent beauty would try to infiltrate the Deltas and find the secret on her own.

“What’s your name?” he asked. He might have to play a part as well until he figured out why she’d really come and if there even was an ex-boyfriend she was running from.

“Taylor Miles.”

Greer flinched. A lie. That meant she knew exactly who he was, and she was going to set him up.

He guessed there could be another option. Maybe she truly wasn’t Emery Reeder. Didn’t they claim everybody had a twin out there? She and her brother had obviously had different fathers. If she’d had a promiscuous mother, Emery might literally have a twin or sister somewhere in the world who had gotten separated from them in the foster care system. This could be that woman or a woman who looked uncannily like the real Emery Reeder.

He really liked this last theory. She really was Taylor Miles. She was running from her ex-boyfriend. Greer had just been given a gift from heaven.

Sadly, he doubted the easy story was the real one. He had no idea what was truth and what was fiction at this point. All Greer knew was his orderly world was about to get turned upside down.
