And we won’t be interrupted by evil shifters set on murdering us.
Probably.
Maverick shook hands with Agent Miller and then turned to walk away, his arm around Pilar. They had only walked a short distance when Pilar stopped, moving around to put her hands on his shoulders. Her eyes were bright and blue but troubled.
“What do we do now, Maverick?” she asked.
It was a fair question. Maverick really didn’t know. Was Pilar supposed to go back to her job, and he back to his lab? The alpha in him roared a protest against this.
Without a doubt, the first thing he had to do was take his mate, pleasure every inch of her skin, and spend himself in her over and over until both of them were exhausted.
Then start all over again.
Maverick smiled, bending forward to kiss Pilar. She moaned softly against his lips, and they reached for each other, their bodies coming together as if tied together by magnets.
Maverick really didn’t know what would come next in their lives, but they’d be together, and that was the only thing that really mattered.
CHAPTERTWENTY-FIVE
PILAR
Pilar stood in front of the full-length mirror that hung on the back of her bedroom door and gazed at the beautiful dress Maverick had bought for her to wear tonight.
It was a special occasion, and he wanted her to look and feel immaculate. He always had a way of making her feel that way without the fancy gown included, but she appreciated the thoughtfulness behind the gesture.
The dress he had chosen was mid-thigh length. It showed off her legs. One would bet that’s exactly why he picked it.It was just tight enough to accentuate her incredible curves.Bet that helped make his decision as well.Pilar dragged her index finger from the top of the spaghetti strap on her shoulder all the way to the bottom hem of the dress.
It sparkled in the light of her room as she moved back and forth. She watched as it danced like the waves of the ocean. She couldn’t help but notice how it brought out the deep-sea blue of her eyes that he always told her he loved so much. She couldn’t help but hope that he had matched them on purpose.
She was so excited for tonight. Butterflies flew in her stomach at the very thought of it. They were having a fancy meal together, but on top of that, her sister and Maverick’s aunt had been invited as well. They wanted to share the news of Maverick’s change and their new couple status. A nice fancy dinner setting would be the perfect place to do that.
Maverick called for her from down the hall when he had finished getting dressed. When she walked in, her chest squeezed at the sight of him, but she grinned as he gave her a hopeless look. The only thing he had left to do was put on his tie, and they both knew that he always needed help with that.
He smiled at her in a way that sent chills down her spine. She could tell he was very happy with his choice of attire for the evening. She smiled back at him and did a little spin as she got closer. He grabbed her finger and twirled her around in a full circle in front of him, glancing at all of her beauty.
She released his hand and grabbed the tie he had been holding with the other. She put it around his neck and began doing her special knot just the way he liked it.
“What would I do without you, my love?” he asked.
“Well, certainly not tie your tie,” she joked back at him. He grabbed her by the waist and playfully tickled her for a moment before he went in for a kiss.
“You look gorgeous. Are you ready to go?”
“Thank you, you look rather handsome yourself. Yes, I can’t wait!”
Pilar grabbed her shawl while Maverick found the car keys. They walked out to the parked car. He had driven it up close to the door and turned it so the passenger side that Pilar would need was closest to the exit. She smiled when she saw he had done that for her.
He walked up to the car door and opened it for her, motioning her into it just like a chauffeur for a famous person. She slid her hands over her butt, smoothing her dress, and climbed in.
Maverick walked around the front of the car, smiling at her the whole time. He opened his door and climbed in. The car roared to a start as the key turned. They sped off toward the restaurant.
“I can’t wait for this evening. We deserve it. I just hope they are happy for us,” she said to him shyly, playing with her fingers.
“Of course, they will be. Although I’m a little bit nervous to see my aunt like this. I haven’t seen her in a while, and it is a huge change,” he replied.
They continued making small talk back and forth on their way to the restaurant. When they finally pulled into the parking lot, he parked in the closest space he could find. She was grateful because, as good as her legs looked in these heels, she wasn't made for walking in them.
When he got out of his seat and walked to her side of the car once again, she had already opened her own door.
