“What a wedding.” Chase compliments.
I giggle and keep dancing for a moment before I see the stylist. “Be good to my bestie. I’ll be back.” I point at him. “And I’ll keep my eyes on you.”
“And you have the muscle to back it up?”
“I don’t need it. Not with Nick’s training.” I narrow my eyes.
He just grins a boyish smile and winks. “I could take you.”
I go with the stylist and Danny. Danny adjusts Gio so she can take my hand. “You’re so beautiful.”
“Are you having a good time?”
“I am.” She promises with a smile. “Massimo keeps saying he’s going to get me on the dance floor old-fashioned style.” She adjusts Gio again and I can tell he’s fighting sleep. “As if we don’t have an infant.”
“When was he born?”
“Just three weeks after the wedding.” She holds his head in the back of her hand when she lets go so the seamstress can keep pinning around the front, pulling the dress up and pinning at the waist so it’s not as obvious. “He’s growing like crazy. I have a feeling he’s going to be Massimo’s size.”
I laugh and the seamstress finishes, leaving my feet free. I step into heels and Danny makes sure I don’t fall over in the process. She looks around. “Where’s Valerie?”
“Dancing and having a good time. Why don’t you give me the baby for a little bit so you and Mass can get a few songs in before you have to head out because of the little one.”
And that’s what we do. Danny goes right to her husband and drags him to the dance floor as I bounce the baby on my lap. Roman sits beside me and Gio takes the finger he’s offered and chews on Roman’s finger.
He grins and says soft things in Italian. I look at him differently when he has that soft smile and warmth radiating off him. He will be a good dad. I pause at that thought though. That change from he would to he will is big for me.
Not giant, I guess, but it is big. Kids were always a maybe, never a sure thing. But now, as Roman pulls Gio off my lap and plays with his feet, kicking them to the beat of the song and bouncing him as Gio giggles and squeals with delight, I can’t stop the thought. He’d be such a good dad with any kids we choose to have.
Roman’s eyes meet mine and he arches an eyebrow. “Yes?”
“You’re good with him.”
“I’ve always been around kids. Growing up, it’s kind of expected for families to be big and for the girls and boys to help take care of them.” He says, bouncing Gio more. “I’m comfortable with them and enjoy making them laugh.”
“It’s sweet.” I kiss his neck a few times before parting my lips and I lick across his skin. I hear his breathing hitch, but just draw back slowly. “You’re all soft and approachable.”
His hot gaze on me stirs the lust in my belly. He shakes his head. “Behave, Bambina.”
“When have I ever done something as boring as that?”
Roman chuckles and bundles Gio up in one arm as he rubs my thigh. He looks over the dance floor and I see him chuckle. “Poor Nick.”
I look over and my mom is grinding on him. I sigh and shake my head. “I hoped she’d spare you guys since it’s our wedding day.”
“No chance of that.”
But I see one of Gunner’s sisters dancing against Holden in the same way, having way too much fun for my liking. I take a slow breath. Holden is gorgeous, of course, she’ll want to dance with him, even if she knows nothing will happen.
Maybe that’s even why. Because she knows it’s just dancing with him and there’s no risk of that getting confused. That thought helps me relax. Roman puts Gio back in my arms and kisses my cheek. “Want me to take care of that?”
“Nope,” I assure him. “It’s okay.”
“Really okay or you’re just tolerating it, Sophia?”
“It’s really okay.” I flash a smile. “Everyone here knows that we’re together. No others are going to get involved and she may like that. Knowing she can dance how she wants without any kind of confusion.”
“Look at you all full of logic.” He offers me more champagne and I sip from the glass he holds. “I’m proud of you.”
