Sophie and Valerie head upstairs together and I shake my head at Gunner. He shrugs. “Look, now that we have a good girlfriend – drama-free – by the way, I want to help others hook up. Is that so wrong?”
“You’re not cupid.” I remind him.
“No. They don’t need the love part. That shit’s special. But everyone likes to have sex.” He goes to Nick. “Omelets are way too healthy. How are you not hungover?”
“Water.” Nick teases. “You drink two glasses for every one of alcohol and you have to pee so often, you don’t want to drink anymore.”
“You used to be the party animal, remember?” Gunner shoves his shoulder. “Anything to see lots of sexy ladies who would crowd around you for their chance.”
“But, we have Sophie now.” I remind them.
Gun snorts at me. “I can never win with you two. There’s not any point in trying, is there?”
“It’s all about the trying.” Diana comes out and looks between the three of us. She zeros in on Nick, his tank top hardly hiding anything. She licks her bottom lip. “Nicky … can I touch?”
“Diana.” He warns as Gunner and I move to get a better view ofthisshow.
“Come on. Your pecs are just … so delicious. I won’t even lick them the way they deserve, just a nice touch, maybe a stroke?” She giggles.
“Don’t you have a fiancé to take care of?” He reminds her, then leans closer. “We can’t let on.” He winks.
She giggles hopelessly and hugs him, pressing her face right against his chest. “But you’re just rock hard all over. I can keep a secret.”
“Nick is great at secrets.” Gunner eggs on. “He has some pretty awesome ones.” He says with his crooked up to something smile.
“Oh yeah? You should whisper one in my ear. One that will make me blush.” Diana stands on her toes, offering up her ear.
Nick whispers something and she swats him. “That’s not nice! And it’s not a secret. Apparently, the whole office knows the four of you share my daughter.”
Roman pauses mid-step as his eyes sweep across the room. No Sophie. No Miles. Just us and Diana. Probably not the best idea, but not the worst. I know Diana is all talk. Last night, while she was drinking, she told me how much she loves riling up Miles.
That when he’s jealous, he gets all primal and hot and it’s such a turn-on that she can’t resist. Plus, she likes to watch us squirm. She’s definitely Miles’s type. Miles comes out after Diana has untangled herself from Nick and he grins at us.
“Good party, guys. Casual and fun.”
“Did you get any swimming in?” Nick asks.
“The water was great. The perfect temperature.” Gunner agrees. “God, I sound like Lief.”
That cracks everyone up. Sophie returns, in a cute sundress, and rubs my shoulders as if she hasn’t given me enough this morning. “I have to leave with Valerie now.” Her eyes flick to her mother. “Mom, behave.”
“I’m the adult, I should be saying that to you.” Diana reminds. “Valerie, get over here.”
Valerie accepts the hug and promises to keep in touch better before they’re out the door. Miles and Diana join us for breakfast and it almost reminds me of how we were living before. Diana’s a new addition, but with Miles, all we’re missing is Matthew. He never RSVPed which is strange.
Maybe he thought it was a joke. Miles sighs as he looks around. “It’s nice to see you guys so happy. Really. I never thought you’d okay something like that, Holden.”
“Sophie was so excited.” I shrug. “I couldn’t tell her no.”
“You should. And regularly.” Miles argues with a hidden smile. “I mean it. Don’t turn her into some spoiled sugar baby.”
“My favorite candy.” Gunner flashes a dirty smile that makes Diana laugh.
Miles shakes his head, and they head out after breakfast which leaves all of us to lay around. Nick insists on a grocery store run and takes Gunner since Gunner wants to pick some things out for the dinner he wants to cook.
Roman sits on the other couch as we watch highlights of sports in general. When I catch his eyes, I rub my jaw. “How is that overthinking going?”
“Better.”
