ROMAN
It’s been nearly four days since Sophie saw the ring in my luggage and as far as I know, she hasn’t said a word. The guys haven’t asked me anything, so I can only assume that they don’t know. Gunner would definitely have something to say to me.
But just knowing that it’s not my secret, that someone else could out me after everything we went through in Hawaii is adding stress to my shoulders. I can barely focus on work, didn’t even go to see Miles when he got back the day after us.
Not that he’s focused on us at the moment. Diana has all his attention outside of work, just like she should. They’re newly engaged and not wasting any time. I’m betting they don’t make it a month before having their wedding all set up.
Which means I won’t have any reason to wait.
It doesn’t matter that we’ve been with Sophie less than a year after the drama raised by Bella, the doubts about Gunner’s loyalty, the conversations we all had with Sophie about what we need in the relationship, and our worries, I feel like we’re all on the same page and there’s no reason not to move forward.
“Focus,” I order myself, glaring at the computer like it’s the reason I can’t get a damn thing done.
“Sir, there’s someone here for you.” One of the saleswomen say. Out of the women that work with us, she’s my second favorite. Jane has never made a pass, has never once been unprofessional, and simply does her work and goes home. “Should I let her in?”
“Name.”
“Sophia Lane. She says she works here but wasn’t sure if you were in a meeting.”
“Let her in.” I encourage.
Sophie has been keeping a little bit of distance since we got back. She said she needed a few nights in her own bed to recover from Hawaii. Since she was being fucked so thoroughly and regularly, it’s hard to blame her.
She walks into my office wearing a pencil skirt and a white button-up, her auburn hair free and waving over her shoulder to tease her breast. A vision of lovely and professional to boot.
“Shut the door, please.”
She does as I ask, then sits across from me. After studying the distance between us, she crosses her legs, making her skirt pull up so I can see even more of her delicious thighs. She clears her throat. “I thought we should talk about the thing.”
“You know what thatthingis, Bambina.”
“Which is why I haven’t brought it up at home, Roman.” She clears her throat and I’m sure she’s rehearsed whatever it is she’s about to say. “I’m assuming the guys don’t know and we just had a spat about keeping secrets. I don’t want to keep this one. I want them to know and I want everyone to be okay with it, which means you need to tell them what’s on your mind.”
I fold my hands in front of me.
“Not only did you fail to clue them in on your plans, but you also didn’t even talk to me about it. We’ve all been dating for less than a year and I know I love you and that you love me, but it’s not just the two of us in this relationship. You know that. You know how badly this could go and …”
I arch an eyebrow.
“You haven’t interrupted yet. I didn’t plan for that.” She glances towards the window. “Roman, what am I supposed to do when I know this?”
“I should have hidden it better.” I shrug.
“That’s not the point and you know it!”
I squeeze the bridge of my nose, then round my desk, resting my ass against it, so I’m closer to Sophie. Thisisn’ta business meeting, even if she wants to treat it like that and only bring up the immediate and relevant information. She wants answers and maybe she doesn’t want the question I’m still working on proposing.
“I was moved by the wedding, Sophie. It doesn’t mean I’m going to ask today or tomorrow. Of course, I’m going to talk to them first about it. When it happens, it won’t be like Bella and Matty. I like the guys involved with us and I know you love them too.”
“So why get married at all? It’s just a piece of paper that tells the government that you love me.Ialready know.” She stands up. “I’d rather travel the world with you guys forever than spend a whole lot of money on one day. It makes more sense.”
I brush my hand over her cheek and even though she’s trying to be serious and logical, she leans into my hand. I sigh. “Bambina, we will happily take you where ever you wish to go. We can see the whole world together. We can work from anywhere. But you don’t have to choose one or the other.”
“Roman-”
“And getting married is normal. It’s what normal people do when they love each other. It’s something I’ve waited to do until I found the right woman.” I stroke her cheek with my thumb slowly. “You are the only woman I can see myself marrying and it doesn’t take a business meeting with the guys to know they feel the same for you.”
“I love all of you. I’m afraid a wedding, a proposal, any of it will mess everything up. It’s not like I can get married four times without legal stuff getting in the way.”
