“Holy shit is right,” I agree. “I’ve never. I just. Wow.”
Raven grins at me proudly. He doesn’t say it out loud, but it’s written all over his face. You’re amazing. I blush in response. I can’t quite believe that’s what he’s thinking, but I can feel it. I know he’s not lying. I canfeelthe love that they have for me now and it’s really… sweet.
Suddenly, a stabbing pain hits my heart. With a blink, my glamour goes away as I grab onto my stomach, gasping. “What’s happening?”
My mates are all feeling it too. I can feel the echo of their pain, and I can see them grabbing onto their stomachs.
“What is that?” I blurt out.
“I don’t know,” North admits.
“Oh no.” The truth hits me. If I have a strong connection to every fae now, and Roanac has my blood and my power, then that means he has a connection to all of the fae too. Once the power takes full root inside him, he’ll be able to do whatever he wants to all of the other fae. He can take their power and their blood.
“It’s Roanac.”
CHAPTER6
Fear claws up my throat. If Roanac can kill all of us and take our power then he’ll wipe out all of the fae. He’ll make us extinct in one fell swoop.
Already vampires have pushed us to the fucking brink. They’ve hunted us, hunted my parents, killed us and put us into hiding, and now thanks to me, because I wasn’t clever enough and strong enough to keep him away from my blood, he’s going to be able to kill us all.
This is my fault.
I can’t believe this has happened. I did this. I let this happen. I should’ve been fuckingbetter, how could I have let this asshole do this to me? My entire life has been me on my own and keeping my profile low, outsmarting anyone who might want to get a hold of me and use me.
Talk about a panic attack. I feel like I can’t even quite breathe, like my chest and my ribs hurt, and I can’t draw in a full breath.
“He’ll kill us,” I blurt out. “He’s got my power, if I have this power then he has it too, and he’s going to use it to… he wants more power and if he thinks the fae can give it to him—”
“Vampires want us for our powerful blood, who’s to say that he doesn’t feel the same way,” North says. “He wantedyourblood and now that he has it, he’s going to want even more. He’s addicted to it, the power is an addiction to him.”
“And he won’t stop with us,” I point out. “He’s definitely not going to stop with us, fuck. Who else is he going to do this to? What will he want with everyone else?”
I don’t think he can take power from shifters and vampires and all the way that he can from the fae. I don’t know if their blood works the same and it’s not like shifters have this innate power, I think ingesting their blood would only make you be able to shift into whatever animal they can shift into and Roanac’s way past that.
But would he want to rule over them? Subjugate them? He wants power and once he has ultimate magical power, why not want to rule over others? Why not want to rule over everyone and get power through being their king? Their lord?
“He’s not going to let anyone else have power,” North growls. “Magic corrupts when you have too much of it. It twists you. It’s like any other addiction. It gets into your soul and it changes you, the same way heroin changes your fucking brain.”
“Do you think he’ll go after others?” I ask. “Mages? Witches?”
“Anyone who has innate magic, probably,” Cain theorizes. “And if you don’t, if you’re a vampire or something then you’ll have to bow to him.”
“No magic except for Roanac’s,” I whisper.
“Can he even fucking contain all of that magic?” Raven bursts out. “Nobody can handle that much, can they?”
“With the modifications he went through, maybe,” I point out. “And even if he dies trying, he’s going to kill everyone around him in the process. Who knows how many people will have to die before he finally loses control and dies himself? How many people will he take down with him?”
“That much magic exploding all at once,” North notes. “That wouldn’t be pretty. We have to stop him before he can gain any more.”
I stand up. I refuse to let that happen. This is my fault, this is on me. I have to stop him. That’s my fucking blood he has in his body! If I’d been better, I’d have stopped him or at least kept him away from me! And now he’s going to cause the extinction of my people?
Fat fucking chance. I’m going to rip him to fucking pieces, him and Donovan both.
I jump to my feet and start grabbing clothes. While I was catching up on my sleep, Cain went out and bought us all some clothes so that we wouldn’t be stuck in the same outfits as before. Or in my case without a shirt, since Roanac fucking cut mine to pieces when he opened my chest.
Okay, we’ll need some supplies, definitely some magical shit, what do we have here at the bunker that I can use?
