Has he even thought about me? Was he looking for me in my office?
I don’t think so.
He’s talking to his secretary.
Eventually, he pivots to the doorway, notices me, and ends his conversation with that woman.
He swaggers in, a grin glinting in his eyes.
“There you are…” he says.
He must’ve looked for me.
I think.
I hope.
I delude myself into believing that?
Maybe.
His gaze slides down and up in a swift once-over. I get a hot flash from his intrusive eyes.
“You look beautiful,” he says nonchalantly, closing the space between us.
He cups my neck and kisses my cheek, and I just melt into a puddle.
“Follow me,” he says, just as Gloria Franklin enters the office.
The woman freezes in the doorways as if struck by lightning.
“Oh. I’m sorry. I can come back later.”
“No. I’ll take care of them,” he says, ticking his chin toward the folders she holds in her hand.
“Wait for me, all right?” he tosses at me.
He invites me to take a seat while he starts reviewing the information.
Their conversion becomes a distant hum as I tune out soon after.
He seems in a good mood as he quickly moves his eyes over the reports.
He also looks rested, as if he hasn’t been on a long flight.
Time flies by, and soon she’s done and walks out of his office. A few more people pop in, and I don’t know what to do.
I also have work to do, and I’m supposed to leave in half an hour.
We haven’t exchanged a word so far, and if it’s going like this, we’ll probably be here for a while.
It’s five o’clock when the employees begin to leave and the people in Kai’s office make a beeline for the door.
He shifts his eyes to me.
“Thanks for waiting,” he says.
I purse my lips.
