It fits me perfectly. I spin to him. Our eyes connect.
He looks sexy himself. It’s that air of confidence he always oozes that makes me weak in my knees.
But… There are dreary feelings that curl around my heart, hissing like nasty vipers. I’ve been through this with him and them, and it all went bust.
I’ve been burned too many times not to stop in front of him and ask.
“What are we doing, Kai?”
His eyes narrow with a smile.
“We’re starting all over.”
“How many times will we do that?”
“As many times as we need to.”
I think about it for a second.
“That means you’re back?”
“I was never gone,” he says, brushing a stray strand of hair over my shoulder.
“You were gone for almost two days.”
A pensive look slides over his face as he vacantly stares down.
“I needed to spend some time by myself.”
“Away from me?”
He lifts his eyes and nods.
“Yes.”
“You could’ve stopped me…” I say, my heart wanting to break free from my chest and run.
Slowly, he shakes his head.
“This is not about stopping you. It’s about finding the truth.”
“What happens when you find the truth?”
He tosses a smile at me.
“I’ll check myself out.”
I stare at him, my mouth agape.
“What about the other person?”
I’m about to say, ‘What about me?’
He shakes his head again.
“This game was never about telling another person to pull out. It was only about admitting you can no longer play it.”
“You said we’d start all over again. That means… Uh…”
