“Hey, baby,” he says in a nasal voice. “Where are you?”
“Home. I mean at your place… Eating. I’m on the terrace.”
I stop, cringing.
I’m such a dud.
“I’m twenty minutes from landing. Can you come and pick me up?” he says.
My hands start to shake.
“Pick you up? In your Ferrari?”
“Yes. Do you have another idea?”
He seems in a good mood.
“No, no. I can pick you up. Give me… Give me ten minutes. I’ll be there. I’m doing my best to get there on time.”
“No rush. I’ll be waiting for you.”
“Okay. Bye,” I say, pushing to my feet and almost toppling the chair over.
I dash to the bathroom and shed my clothes before running to the closet and picking up a dress from the hanger.
Good thing, I got out of the shower an hour ago.
I brush back my hair, put on some mascara, and spritz some perfume on my neck and my wrists.
Swiftly I slide on a pair of skimpy panties and a bra, and my favorite black dress.
My lucky dress fits smoothly in all the right places.
My heels give me a few extra inches, making my dress look even sexier with its glamorous design following my silhouette.
It falls smoothly over my body and closes with a metallic zipper up my back.
My black dress and hair and my tan set off my eyes.
I remove my eyes from my reflection and zip out the door, my heart beating in my throat. It pounds so hard my chest hurts.
With the traffic, all the red lights, the stops, and my cautious way of driving his car, it takes me more than twenty minutes to get to the airport.
I ask for directions to the strip of concrete where his private jet just landed.
Minutes later, I wait next to his plane, my back propped on his car, my arms crossed over my chest.
The night breeze blows in my hair when the man I’m waiting for looms at the top of the stairs.
Tall, suit-clad, eyes like the dust of diamonds.
Warmth soars through my blood, my heart jumping up and down.
He talks to the pilot before turning to me.
He wears a sharp suit, a white shirt, and a blue tie and holds a huge bouquet of yellow roses.
My arms fall to the side as I push off his car and straighten my back.
