“It was a couple of hours ago. After we left her room. I took a shower and called the reception desk. They said it was open twenty-four hours. I tried to sleep. I couldn’t, so I thought working out would solve my problem. I walked out the door and saw him vanish around the corner. I thought he came to you. Later, I checked his door. He wasn’t in his room… Anyway.”

He gestures, picking up another croissant.

“I changed my mind and went back. I slept for an hour or so, and here I am. I’m not going to the gym. I was wondering if he came to you.”

“He didn’t.”

A different thought pops in my head, and I’m flooded with heat.

“He probably went to her.”

I look down as I say those words.

“You think?” he asks, prompting me to lift my gaze.

Our eyes lock.

“Something was off with him. So, yes. I think so. He’s probably there now.”

I finish eating and lean back in my seat.”

“You’re fine with it?”

Still chewing, I look at him, a smile sprouting on my lips.

“Aren’t you?”

He sits on the bed.

“This is not about me.”

“This is not about anyone. We’re still doing this thing, so he can have his time with her.”

“Hmm…”

A knowing grin lines his lips while he looks down briefly.

“She truly is ravenous.”

“Yeah, that… I also think he might be gone sooner than I thought,” I say.

“I’m not so sure about it.”

“We’ll see.”

“So you think he’s still with her?”

“If he’s not at the gym, and he’s not here, or in his room…Yeah. He’s probably there.”

Strangely I feel calmer now, knowing that he’s with her and she’s not alone.

“Are you going to sleep?” he asks, finishing eating.

I suck in a long breath and stretch my legs, leaning back in my chair.

“No. Not yet. I’m too wired up.”

“You and everybody else,” he tosses at me, hinting at something.
