“Well, I thought—”
“No, Anderson. I’m not coming over. Have fun with your fucking girlfriend. Try not to think of me too hard when your dick slides into her.”
“Crew, no—” The line goes dead. I have no interest in sleeping with anyone but him, and now I can’t tell him that.
He fucking hung up on me. He’s never hung up on me before. I knew he’d be upset, but I was hoping he might understand and hear me out. Instead, it went worse than I could’ve imagined. He just shut me out without giving me any chance to make it right.
Cool.
Grabbing a shirt from my drawer, I slip it on and head downstairs. My parents are both in the kitchen when I walk in.
“Hey, guys. Calina called a few hours ago and told me she’s coming to visit. She’ll be here in a bit. Is that okay?”
“Of course, honey. I’m excited to finally get to meet her.”
“Don’t get too excited. I’m breaking up with her.”
“Anderson!” my mom shrieks. “Why?”
“Because it’s going nowhere. I should’ve done it weeks ago. I was going to do it as soon as we got back from Texas, anyway. I didn’t know she would be coming here.”
My dad laughs from over his coffee cup. “Something funny, Dad?”
“Yeah. This predicament.”
“Gee, thanks.”
The doorbell rings. It must be her, but she’s earlier than I thought. Sighing loudly, I look back to my parents. “Here we go.”
With my hand on the doorknob, I shut my eyes and allow myself to drag in a deep breath before opening the door. There, on the other side, is Calina. A wide smile on her perfectly glossed lips, hair cascading over her shoulders in loose curls, wearing a light pink crop top and white ripped jean shorts.
“Detka!” She throws herself at me, arms wrapping around my neck, lips coming to mine. Her kiss tastes like strawberries, and I feel like shit for noting that her lips aren’t nearly as firm as Crew’s and the skin around her mouth is smooth, whereas Crew’s usually has stubble that I’ve come to love the scratchy feel of.
“Hey, Calina. How was your flight?”
She pulls back, looking at me with pinched brows. “It was good. Are you happy to see me?”
“Yeah. Wish you would’ve given me a little more notice, though. I had plans that had to be canceled.”
“What kind of surprise would that be? And plans doing what?”
“Hanging out with Crew.”
“Don’t you do that, like, all the time?”
“Well, yeah. But I just got back from Texas after being away for a week.”
She crosses her arms over her chest, narrowing her eyes at me. “Well, are you going to show me around, introduce me to your parents, or are we just going to stand in your entryway the whole time?”
“Of course. Let’s go.”
For the next hour, I show her around the house and introduce her to my parents. They make polite small talk with her, but I can tell by the stiffness in my mom’s shoulders, she’s uncomfortable. I shouldn’t have told her I was breaking up with Calina.
When we finally make it back to my room, I roll myself onto the bed, arm thrown over my eyes. This entire day has been one disaster after the other. And the worst part? There’s nothing I want more than to go to Crew and fix shit with him.
The tightness in my chest and the pit in my stomach returns, knowing I should want to fix things with my girlfriend more than him. The air is tense. Thick and suffocating. I fucking hate this. As I’m about to open my mouth to say something, anything, she beats me to it.
“Anderson, we should probably talk.”
