He tried not to smile and lost. He kissed Reika again. "Only with you, love. Only with you."
Carefully carrying his son to the window, Stone started telling Haru about what an amazing person his mother was, and how Stone would teach him everything about fighting and protecting those he loved. And no matter what ended up being his dominant paranormal traits—it became muddled with a child who had such mixed parentage as Haru with a shifter, fae witch, and vampire background—he and Reika would love him forever.
All too soon Nora came to let him know Reika was done and asking for him.
Reika yawned as he settled beside her. He placed their son on her chest, put an arm around Haru and her, and murmured, "Sleep, love. I'll watch over you and Haru."
She glowed as she looked at him. "I love you, Stone."
He kissed her. "I love you too, Reika."
With a smile on her face, his wife fell asleep. And Stone marveled at the miracle in his arms. Every day he didn't think he could be happier, and he yet he was constantly proven wrong. He couldn't wait to see what the future brought them.
