Her head jerked up, her eyes wide on her face. He ran his hand down her side and planted it behind her so he leaned into her. Crowding in so her shoulder pressed against his chest, he inhaled the cocoa lingering on her breath.
“I do… want you. Always.” He pressed his forehead to hers. “My heart is yours. Always has been. Always will be until the day I die and through to eternity.”
Her breath shuddered as she dropped the candy into her lap, wrapped her fingers in his shirt, and pressed her lips to his. His pulse fired like a 50 cal in his ear as napalm blasted through his veins. Their lips moved in frantic, desperate movements. Joy flooded his brain, sending every one of his cells into a buzzing frenzy. He hadn’t lived the years without her. No, he’d simply survived, trudging through the drought his leaving her had made of him.
This… she was life.
She pulled him closer, one fist still gripping his shirt, while the other speared through his hair. Every follicle stood on edge like they were all reaching for her touch. The skin on his scalp tingled every place her fingers explored.
Wrapping his hand around her hip, he pulled her onto his lap. He needed her closer. He trailed his lips along her jaw to the spot he loved below her ear. The strangled sound in her throat and her palm sliding over his chest and around his side to pull him closer had him smiling against her neck.
The hug of her legs tightened around him. She was his. He’d never let her go now.
