He couldn’t have found a little who fit him better than she did, and he was thrilled he’d found her. Now he just had to keep her safe.

Chapter Seventeen

Several days passed, and they had been unable to find a way to protect the girls without making them prisoners in their homes. Holly knew the guys were doing their best, but she couldn’t help her resentment, frustration, and anger from growing.

The men tried to make life as easy and normal as possible for them.

Caylee and Nolan had moved to his place a few floors above them. She still got to see her friend every day, but now it felt like they were making their own separate families away from each other, and she didn’t know how she felt about that.

Jonah stayed with her as much as he could. Both girls were forbidden to go anywhere except for their condos because the guys didn’t want to take the chance of them being seen. She understood, but it didn’t help with the loneliness of her situation.

Holly and Caylee sat in the back bedroom and played cards on the floor as they waited for their daddies to come to get them.

Holly smiled when she heard the elevator door open and Jonah’s voice. She was about ready to run to him when Caylee whimpered. When Holly got a look at her deathly pale face, she got on her knees in front of her. “What’s wrong?”

“It’s him.”

“Who?” Holly asked.

“The man who hurt us.”

Holly listened for a second and heard what Caylee did. She felt her stomach twist into a painful knot. “Why would our daddies bring him here?”

“I don’t know.”

Holly grabbed the cards and pulled Caylee to her feet. “Come on. Let’s get into the panic room. We’ll watch and listen to them. If we have to, we’ll get a gun to protect ourselves.”

They opened the door and locked it behind them before turning on the lights.

“Jonah only showed us how to load a gun a few times,” Caylee said. “We’re going to end up shooting ourselves.”

“It’s all we’ve got.” Holly sat down and turned on things one of the guys had shown them.

Both girls jerked when the sound and video came on, and they saw the monster from before.

Holly pulled Caylee down in the chair next to her when she saw her sway. “Sit and be still. We have to listen.”

“It hurts to hear his voice.”

Holly nodded and grabbed her hand.

The man smiled. “I’m glad you guys called. The police can use all the help they can get.”

“Detective Jones, have a seat,” Jonah said.

The girls’ mouths dropped open.

“He’s a cop?” Holly whispered.

Caylee started to gag, holding her hands over her mouth.

“Don’t, Caylee. If you do, we’ll both be puking, and we won’t be able to get to our toothbrushes. Please, take a deep breath.”

Holly ensured her friend was okay before turning her attention back to the monitor.

Jonah, Nolan, and a few others sat or stood around the room while the cop sat in one of the chairs, talking. At first, she thought that the men knew the cop was bad, but they acted more like friends in the way they treated him.

“Cason gave us your name. He said you are working with them to help shut down the human trafficking in the city?” Nolan asked.
