It was a shirt like she had before. Fortunately, they had some clothes, so they didn’t just have that to wear. She was always self-conscious around the other men.
Jonah tugged at the towel wrapped around her, and she grabbed on tight because she’d be naked.
“Baby, let go.”
“But…”
“I know you’ll be naked, but you better get used to it because you’re going to be naked around me a lot.”
She gnawed on her lip, but she let go the next time he tugged on the towel.
“You’re so fucking beautiful. I don’t ever want you to hide this from me again. Do you understand me?” Jonah asked.
She nodded and breathed a sigh of relief when he helped her into the shirt and buttoned it up.
“Brush your teeth, and then get into bed. I’m going to shower quickly.”
She nodded and pulled the toothpaste out of the drawer and her toothbrush from the glass on the counter by the sink.
When he stripped and then casually stepped into the shower, her mouth dropped open, and she froze.
God, he was so hot. His body was perfectly proportioned, and he had muscles on top of muscles. She wanted to trace and study the colorful tattoos he had on his body. His chest had some hair, but it was mostly on his lower arms, legs, and head.
“Baby, get going,” Jonah said from the shower.
Startled, she finished her teeth before racing into the bedroom and jumping onto the bed. She faced him under the covers when he walked out in his shorts.
Her gaze followed him as he turned off the lights and slid in beside her.
A sigh escaped when he pulled her tightly against his chest.
He pressed a kiss to her head. “Good night, baby.”
“Good night, Daddy.”
She didn’t know why it felt so right calling Jonah that, but unless he told her to stop, she’d keep doing it.
The clock ticked as the minutes passed. The ball of dread still grew in her stomach, and she had no idea how to make it go away. She knew she wouldn’t be able to go to sleep anytime soon, so she slowly maneuvered herself over to the side of the mattress and went to stand.
“Baby, where are you going?”
She jerked and faced him. “I … I was going to get a glass of water.” The tension grew, and she just knew she had to find a place to hide for a little bit. “I’ll be back.”
Chapter Fifteen
There was just enough light coming in from the window for him to see her expression, and he could tell she was upset and lying.
When he reached out for her, she flinched away. He propped himself on an elbow. “What’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Don’t lie to me, baby.”
“I just need a little time alone.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know how to explain it. I feel the tension growing in me, and I don’t know how to stop it. Listen, it’s not a big deal. Just give me a little time.”
