“Rest a bit. I’ll take care of you.”
She sat and then listened to the men talk but was still too tired to make sense of most. She just wanted to get her strength back so she and Caylee could make a plan if these guys couldn’t do anything. Time would tell.
Chapter Seven
“Hold on. I will put her in bed, and I’ll be right back,” Jonah said.
When he got to the bedroom, Nolan was covering Caylee up.
Nolan looked up. “I’ll meet you in the office.”
Jonah nodded and covered Holly up. When he returned to the office, Dustin filled Nolan in on what Holly had told them.
“Those fuckers.”
Jonah sat down. “It was pure luck they got away. I don’t want even to imagine what they would have been going through if they hadn’t.”
Jonah saw the same fury in the other men’s faces. “What’s our plan?”
“The only way the girls will ever be safe is if the men they dealt with are dead or the bad guys think the girls are dead.”
“Fuck. We have no idea how high up the news of the girls’ escape went,” Nolan said. “I say we go check out the girls’ place at night. We don’t want the bastards to know we’re there.”
Jonah nodded. “I agree. It will tell us how much they know about the girls.”
Dustin sighed. “The bastards got their purses, so they know enough. Let’s send Brayden and Jose in. They could do this blindfolded. If they could crawl through an enemy camp to plant explosives and not get caught. This will be a breeze.”
“A few of us should look at the office building they were taken to if the girls can remember where it is. Maybe set up listening devices,” Nolan said.
“I think we should set up a meeting with the rest of the guys,” Jonah said. “They might have other ideas.”
“I don’t think we should tell anyone else besides our team. The quieter we keep it, for now, the better,” Nolan said.
“I’ll head out and start to do some digging.” Dustin stood and walked out.
After Dustin left, Jonah leaned back and sighed. “What’s the worst-case scenario?”
“Them getting caught,” Nolan said.
“And the next one?”
“They have to live their life protected twenty-four seven.”
Jonah nodded. “How do you feel about that?”
Nolan shrugged. “If anyone can keep them safe, it’s us.”
“Are you ready to take on a little?”
“I’ve been ready.”
“Is she what you wanted? I don’t want you to settle because of the situation.”
“The same could be said for you,” Nolan said. “What do you think about Holly?”
That question was easy to answer. “I want her. I want to do everything I can to keep her safe no matter what. But I’d be thrilled to have her as my little.”
Nolan smiled. “Caylee is about perfect and close to what I’ve been looking for.”
