He tore at the foil pouch and rolled the latex on. The moment he did Emma was there, pushing him down on his back. Straddling him. She lowered herself on to him with exquisite slowness, heard his breath released in a hiss.

Something about the way Alex looked at her made her feel brazen. In control. Even though he was making her world spin off its axis tonight. He letherlead. Let her usehimfor her pleasure. It was exhilarating.

Being with Alex made her realise just how lacklustre her previous experiences had been. It wasn’t as if he was blowing her mind into orbit. No. Every touch, every groan, the feeling of him being inside her, his eyes never leaving hers, the fact that he never once bothered hiding his pleasure was pinning Emma to the moment. Forcing her to absorb every drop of pleasure.

But when the rhythm of her hips faltered, he rolled her onto her back and took back control.

Alex had always had more than his fair share of female attention. He’d never really had to try very hard, and he’d never seen the point of doing so. It was just a physical release, and every one of those women had understood that it would be for only a night, even if they wanted more. He liked it that way.Henever wanted more, never missed them when they left.

But now there was Emma. And suddenly he couldn’t imagine feeling this for only one night. She was a drug, and he’d been hooked from that first kiss.

His hips sank deeply into her. Ecstasy flowed through his veins with every thrust. He couldn’t remember sex ever feeling this good.

‘You’re so damned amazing,’ he breathed into her ear, and felt goosebumps erupt on her skin.

He kissed her long and slow, until he felt a coiling at the base of his spine, the tension in every corner of his body, like a guitar string pulled tight. Alex could feel Emma was near her peak. Clenching around him. Holding on. Climbing towards herjouissance.

‘Emma...’ he groaned.

He heard his voice come out breathless and tight, and it seemed to push her over the edge. Her head was thrown back in rapture as she came apart, and then he did too, growling into her neck. His release was violent, explosive. Unlike anything he’d felt before.

When his senses returned, Alex felt delicate lips kissing his shoulder. Soft hands caressing his back. And he wanted more.

He eased out, settling alongside her and wrapping an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. Pressing a kiss to her hair.

‘That was incredible,’ she said.

‘I’m not so sure,’ Alex teased. ‘We might need to try it again.’

She playfully smacked his chest and he caught her wrist, running his thumb over the simple black outline of a cat that was there.

‘Didn’t think you were the only one with a tattoo, did you?’ she said.

‘Why a cat?’ he asked.

‘Because it’s Lucky,’ she said, and then, seeing the look of confusion on his face, continued. ‘Lucky is my cat. I got this when I rescued him. He’s actually my first pet. Though I think I’m his most of the time.’ Emma laughed. ‘What about you?’

‘I’ve never had a pet,’ Alex stated blandly.

‘Never?’

‘No. There’s a couple of Airedale Terriers at the family manor, but I hardly ever go back there.’

Alex caught himself before he said any more. He didn’t understand why he was volunteering information about things he would never talk about usually. Things he liked to keep buried. Things that hurt to think about.

‘But that’s enough about that,’ he said with a smirk, before rolling over her and silencing her with a kiss.

CHAPTER FOUR

EMMAAWOKEWITHthe sun streaming in through the glass wall. The rays warmed her back as she lay ensconced in the soft sheets of a large bed. It took her a moment to register that she wasn’t at home, and she bolted upright. Then the night came flooding back to her, and she couldn’t help squeezing her thighs at the memory.

Of all the beautiful women at the ball, Alex had picked her. Her. She could still scarcely believe it.

Then she looked at the empty space beside her.

Alex was already up. Running her hands over the cool sheets, she thought he must have been for a while. And it was time to face reality. It had been one night, and that night was done. Alex had had his fun and so had she. Now she had to go back to being plain old Emma. Alone in her bubble—just the way she liked it.

Emma clambered out of bed and looked around for her clothes, then remembered that they’d littered the living room floor. Mercifully, Alex’s shirt, discarded the night before, still lay on the carpet. Emma buttoned it up as she made her way to the en suite bathroom to freshen up as best she could before what could potentially be an embarrassing ride home.
