He retrieved a foil packet from his wallet and tore it with his teeth, but Emma took it from him. Throwing his head back, Alex groaned as Emma rolled the protection onto his hard length.

‘You’re always prepared,’ Emma teased.

‘Being around you, I have to be. You’re a siren, Emma.’

Using the tenuous hold he had on his control, he poured himself onto the couch, feet planted on the floor, back straight. He crooked his finger at her, beckoning her to come closer, and when she did he pulled her astride his lap and folded his arms behind his head.

‘You wanted to touch...so touch.’

It was a challenge. He knew Emma recognised it for what it was. A gift. One that would let her exert her will in the way they’d both enjoy best.

She trapped her lip between her teeth, looking down at him as if he were a treat. A meal to be devoured. Maybe he was—but so was she. Alex curled his hands into fists. He felt his nails scraping against his scalp, and that helped him keep still when all he wanted to do was sink into her.

Emma felt slightly daunted. After all, there probably wasn’t much that Alex hadn’t experienced. What could she do that would blow his mind the way he constantly did hers? Then it occurred to her that it didn’t matter—because so far he had found pleasure in everything. So she did the first thing that crossed her mind. She kissed him. Hard. In a clash of teeth and tongue as her hands travelled down his body.

He made a strangled sound as she gripped his hardness, guiding it into her as she lowered herself onto him until there was nothing between them. It was the most arousing sound she had ever heard.

Emma started to grind her hips against him and felt his every muscle tense beneath her like cords of steel. Ripping her lips away from his, she leaned against him as her breaths came in short pants. Then she reached around him, taking his hands and placing them on her breasts, shattering his control catastrophically.

Alex’s arms moved around her, holding her back as his mouth closed on one nipple then the other.

‘I wondered how long you’d last...’ She laughed, never having seen his blue eyes quite so dark before.

He growled. ‘What are you doing to me?’ And then he was kissing her again, pulling her body against his as they rocked together, barrelling towards their release.

Emma pulled away from his kiss, tossing her head back. His arms tightened as her squeal turned into a whimper, and he groaned a guttural sound as he followed her into the clutches of rapture.

She slowly opened her eyes to find that he held her against his chest. The safe weight of his arms on her back was telling her that he had her. They were both covered in sweat. Chests still heaving. Emma crushed her lips against his, pouring everything she felt into the connection. It was past tears, or pain, or happiness, or elation. She felt all of those things right now, but she also felt the shackles of them falling off her.

Alex couldn’t understand why sex with Emma always felt so earth-shattering. And it was a dangerous thing, because how could he ever have enough? He had never grown dependent on anything—but this, with Emma, felt like an addiction. He knew right then that what he needed to do was get dressed and ask her to leave. Instead, he held her close, until her breathing evened out. She was so still that he wondered if she had fallen asleep. But she hadn’t. She just couldn’t bring herself to move away from him.

‘I have to go to work tomorrow,’ Emma said.

‘And you’re wondering how you’re going to make it through the day without this?’ Alex teased, even though he wasn’t far off the mark. They had used up all of their time. It was back to the real world. ‘Matt arrives tomorrow.’

‘So it’s just as well that I have to leave.’

‘What are you talking about?’ Alex shifted, forcing her to sit up and look at him.

‘The weekend’s over, Alexander. Today is over.’

‘Emma, I said I wanted more of you. I didn’t say it had to end tonight.’

‘But if Matt arrives tomorrow, what does that mean?’

‘It means that my friend will be in town and it might be nice to have a Melbournian to show us around. I do believe you offered your services as a tour guide.’

As he spoke, Alex could feel a prickle of unease telling him this was a bad idea. Flings weren’t introduced to friends. This wasn’t just breaking the rules. This was decimating them.

‘I suppose I did.’ She breathed out a chuckle. ‘I just thought...’

‘Emma, I want you here,’ Alex said slowly. ‘In fact, I’ll be fetching Matt from the airport tomorrow and I’d like it if you came over after work. Traffic is likely to be heavy, so I’ll give you a key to get in.’

‘Really?’

‘Yes.’ He kissed her chastely on the lips. ‘It’s settled,’ he said, with an edge of finality in his voice.

The prospect of not having to end this for just a few more days was too tempting to resist.
