“I intend to.” I just have to get her to forgive me first.
I walk away, leaving him behind, and brush by Hudson. “What the hell was that over there? I was coming to see what was going on.”
“It’s all good, Hud.” I look around, making sure we didn’t cause a scene, but no one else seems to have noticed any tension. “Go have fun.”
He eyes me funny, probably knowing I’m full of shit, but he doesn’t call me on it. “Yeah. Okay, Maximus. Any reason you didn’t bring your girl with you tonight? We were taking bets on whether you would.”
“Oh yeah? Which way did you bet?” I’m not surprised, but my curiosity is piqued.
Hudson smiles at me so damn big, his dimples pop in both cheeks. “I thought she’d be here.”
“Why?” Now, I’m intrigued.
Hudson grabs my shoulder, like he’s about to tell me a secret. “Because you’ve always been an all-in kinda guy, Max. You don’t hold back. It’s all or nothing. Lenny said you couldn’t keep your eyes or your hands off her last weekend. I just figured that meant something.”
“Yeah. I guess it did.” I think back to last weekend and how fucking happy I was when I woke up Sunday morning and she was still there. And how badly I fucked up last night. Fuck this. “Excuse me, Hud. I’ve gotta make a call.”
“Go get her, Maximus.” Fucking douchebag.
I pull my phone back out and open the text from earlier.
Daphne:I think I need some time, Max. You’re giving me whiplash.
She’s right. I’ve been all over the place with her, and she doesn’t deserve it.
Time to fix that.
