I would like to sing that song when I dance over Daphne’s grave.

Isaac and Dove are really into the movie, and by the time the credits roll, they’re an emotional wreck. If I have to roll my eyes any further, they’ll vanish into my skull.

“I always loved that one as a little girl. I watched it with my grandmother all the time…” Dove sighs, wiping her eyes, and something stirs inside me.

She’s pretty when she cries.

Isaac grins, tossing popcorn into his mouth. “Me too.”

I throw him a pointed look. The Wizard of Oz? Lord does he have a questionable taste in movies. The guy loves musicals, yet he makes me listen to that God-awful satanic metal music whenever we drive in the Jeep.

He’s such a contradiction.

Dove giggles and the little pealing sound she makes spreads warmth through my chest. It’s like my heart has cracked like an egg, and now its yolk is dripping down my center.

“I’m surprised you even like musicals,” she tells Isaac.

He shrugs. “Why not? They make me feel good.”

She smiles at him yet again, and you wouldn’t even think I was present. Not that I mind. I’d hate to put a damper on their tender moment.

I can be a real killjoy at times.

Dove glances over at me this time, trying to involve me in the conversation. Isaac wasn’t lying when she asked if I’d like to join them. She truly did look happy when I arrived in the living room, making my way to my lonely chair.

She took the loveseat with Isaac.

“How about you, Sebastian? Did you like the Wizard of Oz?”

It’s not a trick question. The omega is genuinely curious to hear my opinion on that motion picture. What do I say that won’t disappoint her? I thought it was mind-numbingly horrific, but I can’t tell her that.

Isaac raises his brows, waiting for my answer too, and I can almost hear his thoughts. “Play it cool, man.”

I sigh, leaning against the chair. “It… has a certain charm.”

Yes, if you like singing and dancing. Though I did kind of relate to the Tin Man. How about the Wizard gives me a heart? And Isaac a brain. By process of elimination, Roman would get the courage.

Does that make Dove Dorothy? She already looks and sounds like her.

Isaac snorts and Dove and I peer his way.

“Trust me, he hated it. But that’s okay, kitten. You’ve got me to enjoy musicals with.”

Dove grins yet again, then glances at me sadly. “That’s okay. Next time, we can watch something that Sebastian likes.”

Isaac makes a gagging sound. “God, no. He’s shit at picking movies. It’s best I do.”

He grabs the remote and flicks through the subscription service, and based on our last choice, they’re all similar movies.

Dove gasps. “Annie!

Oh, for the love of all that is holy. Singing orphans? I have to get out of here.

Though it has nothing to do with the singing redheaded child, I just need to get away from Dove.

Her nearness is driving me crazy. I need to be alone.

She smells too sweet, too tempting...
