I exhale for the millionth time, rising to my feet. “Well, let’s get this show on the road. Here’s our hit. Female. Five-foot. Blonde. Blue eyes.”

The file doesn’t give a name, just a brief description and a little bit of her history.

We don’t need to know their names.

I slide the omega’s file across the desk that the OCC sent me. Apparently, the omega awakened at sixteen, but she has been at the compound since the age of eighteen. So two years had passed before she had finally been discovered by the government. Her current age is twenty, and, according to the birthdate in her file, she’s approaching twenty-one.

The age an omega comes into her first heat.

A shame she had to go AWOL in the end. An omega at that age is highly precious in the eyes of the government. Alphas would be lining up for days just to get a chance to knot her during her first heat, yet the government has made its decision.

Her genes cannot enter the gene pool. Period. She killed an alpha, and that makes her bad breeding stock.

The government likes them tame and docile. Easy to manipulate.

It’s not my place to question the bigwigs in the government. They make the rules, and I just follow them. Simple. Besides, I have enough on my plate to deal with. Namely my grandmother. I didn’t even bother looking at the omega’s photo. What would be the point? I’m going to kill her. It’s better not to sneak a peak.

That way, I can remain detached.

Also, we really need the money.

Isaac takes a gander at the photo, and he’s going to be sorry. It’s best we don’t see their faces. Yet I suppose the hare-brained imbecile likes to see what he’s up against.

I don’t know why. They’re all pretty much the same: small, doe-eyed, and innocent. An alpha’s kryptonite.

I never saw the appeal.

A low whistle escapes Isaac’s mouth, and then his green eyes light up when he looks at me. “This one’s a beauty. Look at those big, soulful eyes.”

He holds the photo out to Sebastian, yet the evil bastard only bears his teeth and growls. The sound shoots straight down my spine, making me tremble, and I almost feel for the poor omega we're about to kill.

That is going to be the last sound she ever hears.

“Get that fucking thing away from me…”

“Come on, just one look…” Isaac waves the photograph, and Sebastian grinds his molars.

I can hear them grinding all the way across the desk, and I look at Isaac. “Isaac, stop.”

Isaac often likes to windhim up. There has always been tension between them, and one day, it’s going to explode.

But they’re not fooling me. I know they’ve had an on-and-off clandestine relationship these last several years.Alphas get pretty horny, after all. They need to rut, and sometimes they will even seek out each other’s company.

Isaac gives up on Sebastian, waving the photograph at me now. “Come on, you won’t regret it. She’s really pretty and blonde… I always loved a blonde.”

He practically salivates when he peers at the photo, and there’s no missing Sebastian’s eye roll. I’m not sure what the cold bastard likes. While he and Isaac may tend to each other’s needs every now and then, I’ve never known him to pursue anything romantically.

Maybe he just likes alphas.

But then even that’s questionable. I think he just gave in to Isaac’s constant badgering in the end since the crazy idiot likes to feel loved and needed.

If thunder and lightning ever clashed...

“Just one peek, Roman. I can’t be the only one who’s curious.”

I heave a breath then look at the photograph, and I regret it the instant I do.

Fuck me and my entire life and soul. She’s more than pretty. She’s ethereal.

I swear I’m looking at an angel, but that’s stupid because angels don’t exist. I don’t know why Isaac said she had soulful eyes. To me, they look soulless. They’re almost as lifeless as Sebastian’s. Except hers are a bright blue.

That omega has no soul left in her; I bet it was sucked from her body from the moment she arrived at the compound, and now my mouth tastes like lead.

Why did I have to look at that stupid photograph?
