Soithascomedown to this.
The king has challenged me to a one-on-one fight, and I suppose I should have seen this one coming. He’s nothing but a shark, and I will take great delight in cutting his head off.
Yes, I’m going straight in for the kill, even if it getsmekilled in the process. I am going to execute the king, but I think his court will have a change of heart once they hear what he has to confess.
This son of a bitch had a hand to play in the darkness that has now spread through my world like a plague, and now he will pay. And when I am done with him, I will stick his head on a pike as an example for the others.
Do not mess with humanity. Because we will bite back.
Okay, that was a little dark and terrifying, but what can I say? The darkness is warping my mind.
The king steps down from the throne and circles the room. My mates reach out for me, but the guards hold them back. Madoc looks ready to combust, and I can hear him snarling and cursing, but then a guard hits him in the stomach, and he goes silent.
I clench my teeth, keeping my eyes on my opponent. I will deal with the guard who hurt my mate later. Right now, I have to deal with this current threat.
The king doesn’t even fight with a weapon. He has chosen his claws instead, and I have to calculate my steps carefully and not get distracted. Sure, Vita has granted me insurmountable power, but I’m still rusty with my techniques.
I spent my years reading books, after all. Not learning swordplay.
Although I’m pretty good with a gun, I lost my rifle back at the wraith forest. No doubt some twisted wraith will use it as a prop on some poor human who has a fear of guns.
The king lashes out with his claws, and I jump back, using the flat of my blade as a shield. If only I had a real shield.
“Focus now, Belle. There is a way you can use his strengths against him. Sure, he has the upper hand, but time and time again, he has underestimated you.”
That’s true. Vita is right. When I first came to his court, looking for help, he only laughed at me, and he even threatened my mates. He expected me to fail on the first mission, but I proved him wrong.
He really does think little of us humans, looking down his nose on us, and I’m not surprised he fucked with us all. I wonder what he did to make the darkness spread. How many supporters he had, and how easy it was for him to infiltrate our emotions.
I saw what happened to Gustave once he got a taste of Madoc’s power. Most humans cave, but that creature was fueled by such ferocity, and I think I know exactly what the king did.
The king turned humans against each other, hence why the darkness spread like a virus in a matter of years. Humans have always been toxic, I guess, and I learned that the darkness had always been there way before the monsters came to our world, but this ass just fueled it.
I always had a feeling there was some supernatural element involved, and the answer is all too clear to me now.
Was this the path Enchantress set me on? She wanted to see if it were possible for a human to fall in love with four monsters, creatures that most women would have balked from, but I ended up falling head over heels for all of them, and that’s saying something. I was stubborn and always refused to have that typical, storybook romance.
I was no fairy tale princess or damsel in distress, but they still won my heart.
And not only do I owe it to my mates, but I also owe it to the rest of the human race. I will chase away the darkness, and I will return my mates to their former glory.
They will sit upon their thrones once again.
The king swipes at me, and this time he manages to draw blood when he slices at the side of my face. I grit my teeth, sweat dripping down my temple. There comes an eerie snarl from my mates, but I can’t afford to lose my focus.
I wipe my face, glaring up at him. Sweat drips into my eyes. “You bastard... you were the one who infected the humans, weren’t you? You’re the one who brought the darkness and created all this chaos.”
The king chuckles, swiping his claws once again, and I dodge his blows with the flat of the blade. I only know how to use my sword for defense, but I really need to get on the offense.
The fucker has backed me to a corner, literally. There’s a wall at my back. My mates are livid and I can see that all four of them are now battling with the guards. I spy Nero ripping the arm from one, blood splattering his blue face. Madoc turns another into Swiss cheese with his knife, and Grey flaps his undamaged wing, knocking several off their feet.
I don’t know where Enzo and Alice have gone, but hopefully, he has taken her away somewhere safe. I’m thankful. As my mate, his instincts should be to keep me safe, but he knows that I would rather he protected Alice.
She will not become this cunt’s mate. Period. I will set her free.
Shewillreturn to the land of Wonderland one day. Ofcourseit’s real. I have learned that anything is possible, so long as you can imagine it.
Thoughts of Alice and my mates are what give me strength, and with one loud battle cry, I swing my sword, and a surge of power thrums through me.
