Again, I gaze into that faded white eye of hers, and a shiver courses through my spine. Damn, she is giving me the heebie jeebies. What a scary old woman.

She giggles yet again, wrapping a feeble, wrinkled hand around my wrist as she peers at my palm. A low whistle escapes her mouth when she gets a good look. “Impressive life line. It’s almost as big as your love line... Ooh, multiple lovers, I see. Just like Grandma Ethel...”

She wiggles her brows, and I remove my hand from her wrinkly grasp. A bit much, Ethel... I’m not comfortable talking to you about my love life.

Ethel’s eyes fall on Hunter and Patrick, and her good eye pops from its socket when it gets a fill of them. “Damn, girl... You will have to let me in on your secret! That’s some male eye candy...”

Patrick turns beetroot red as he hides away from the lecherous old lady, but Hunter chuckles handsomely and wanders over to Ethel. “A pleasure to meet you.”

He takes her hand and kisses her knuckles, and Ethel almost passes out. She reaches up and grasps Hunter’s face, and it looks as if I have some competition.

Ethel is smitten with him.

“So handsome! You remind me of one of my old lovers. He was a wolf, too...”

A few humans grimace. One young guy looks as if he wants to vomit. “God, Grandma...”

Ethel sneers at them all. “Yeah, don’t look so shocked now. Granny loves herself a good time too!”

The boy expels the contents of his stomach at last, then rushes out of the cave. Several follow his example.

This is so awkward. Why can’t the ceiling just cave in and kill us all? At least the humans can leave when they want. We wolves have no choice but to bear witness to this unsightly display.

We can’t really go anywhere until we’ve been accepted by the colony, and I think I finally understand Hunter’s game.

Ethel is obviously a respected member of their community. She’s the oldest and wisest, and I bet they seek her out in times of doubt.

She sees all with that mystical eye, after all. I have no doubt she saw Silver inside me, too.

She did, Ylfa. She was the oracle who forewarned Raven of her destiny... and now she knows yours...

My eyes bug as they land on Ethel again. She leads my mate away to her living area, a small, beat-up couch with an umbrella and a nightstand, and I can’t believe it.

So, she’s the one. She told Raven that she would put an end to the whole shifter race. I guess I know who I need to befriend here now. Maybe she can give me some tips about the future.

Being friends with a mystic will sure come in handy.
