We stay that way for a while. The moon continues to shine down on us, and I have never seen it so full. It chases away the shadows, leaving light in its path.
If I’m not mistaken, the lake it reflects upon seems to glow.
Curiously, I lean across the bank, meeting my own dark-eyed reflection in the water. Silver does the same, and her white-coated, yellow-eyed form appears beside mine.
Something strange happens. Our reflections merge, and then we become one. It seems the bond I have formed with the she-wolf was stronger than I realized.
I’m not sure how, but it feels as if the moon’s glow is drawing us closer, and before I know it, I vanish into a world where there is only light.
But through it all, I have my ever faithful companion.
We will never leave each other’s sides.
Unlike our children, we will never die. We will be reborn again and again and again.
