Thank the moon spirit they’re gone. I’m pretty sure the alpha is almost finished with his meeting. I just hope no one in the pack tells him about what happened today.

All eyes are on me. People look genuinely surprised that I spared humans of all things. I killed many during the attack. I still have the taste of human blood on my lips, but I let two kids go.

If I’m not mistaken, they all look... impressed.

They expect me to be just like the alpha—merciless. But I can be reasoned with.

However, the only eyes I care about are Ylfa’s. She’s standing with her mate Patrick again, staring at me with newfound wonder.

It’s as if she’s really seeing me for the first time. I think there are even tears in her big green eyes, which shine even greener when they’re wet.

I steel myself then and turn away from her, ordering the convoy to move again.

Let’s just hope we don’t run into any more kids.

Finally, we arriveat the fortress, the site of the global gathering.

And I’m in complete awe.

It stretches for miles and miles inside a long, green valley, almost resembling the cities I saw in human travel brochures. Although wolves don’t use glass and steel like the humans did, there are still a number of buildings.

One structure is a large castle made from stone sitting on the mountainside, and that must be the fortress.

I’ve never seen a castle before, but it almost resembles one of those medieval structures from the human dark ages.

The dark ages were not a good time for wolves. The humans almost hunted us into extinction, since our numbers were much fewer back then.

Well, not anymore.

Now they’re the ones living along the fringes of our society. Now we tell our own young about the vicious ape men who lurk in the woods at night with their weapons of silver...

Patrick’s blue eyes glisten as he stares at the fortress, and I realize it’s his first time seeing it too.

The fortress is where the elders have their annual meetings, and it’s there where they’ll be discussing the possibility of war.
