Whenever Hunter and I were alone, we couldn’t keep our hands off each other. I had to drive to work the next day because it was raining, but when I turned the keys in the ignition, the car made aclickCLICKclickCLICKsound. It wouldn’t start.

I groaned and ran back inside. “My car finally gave out. Can one of you drive me to work?”

I of course meant forHunterto drive me, but I had to open the invitation to both him and Brad. Fortunately, Hunter got the hint and popped up from the couch.

“I’ll give you a ride.”

I bet you will,I thought as we ran out to his SUV.

We didn’t say a word to each other on the way to the brewery. At this point, we had anunderstanding. Any time we had to ourselves had to be taken advantage of. So it came as no surprise when Hunter drove past the brewery and turned down the driveway of an abandoned warehouse. The two of us were kissing and groping before we could even get our seatbelts off, crawling over the console to get into the spacious back seat, where Hunter hastily pulled down my pants and panties with eager fingers and then sank into me with need.

I scratched my nails into his back as he fucked me passionately, the rain pounding on the roof of the car.

“You should head home,” I said afterward, when we were cuddling together on the seat. His skin was warm and sweat beaded on my skin, but I refused to let go of him.

“Trying to get rid of me so soon?” Hunter asked in a deep rumble.

“I don’t want Brad to get suspicious.”

I felt Hunter shrug. “I’ll tell him I swung by the auto shop to get some parts for the Mustang.” He reached down beneath the seat and lifted a plastic bag. “Which technically isn’t a lie. Ididswing by the auto shop… this morning.”

“Getting by on a technicality. Nice.”

“I don’t like lying to your brother,” Hunter said softly.

I stroked my fingers down his chest, across one of his bare nipples and then down into the hills of his six-pack. “Me neither. Hopefully it won’t be for much longer.”

“I don’t know how much longer we can hide it,” Hunter said. “He’s getting suspicious. Today he asked how Carmen is doing, and wondered why I hadn’t talked to her on the phone. I had to make something up.”

“I was suspicious of that too,” I replied. “How is she handling the breakup? Have you talked to her at all?”

He let out a very long sigh. “No. Not really.”

I looked sideways at him. “Those are two different answers. Is itno, or is itnot really?”

“Do I detect some jealousy?”

“No,” I replied with a grin. “Notreally.”

Hunter scowled. “Those are two different answers.”

I poked him in his chest. “Exactly!”

I only felt alittlejealous at the prospect of him talking to his ex. It wouldn’t have bothered me. They had been engaged for over a year, and had lived together for even longer. It made sense that they would still talk, especially to discuss the logistics of the breakup and when Hunter would move out of their place in Portland.

But Hunter shook his head and said, “I haven’t spoken to Carmen since I first got here.”

“Really? Not at all?”

He shrugged. “I don’t want to talk to her. The only woman I want to talk to isyou. Sorry if that sounds cheesy, but…”

“It’s sweet, is what it sounds like.” I looked at my watch and sighed. “I wish we could do more. I could use another hour of cuddling. Or just spending time with you without worrying about Brad.”

He leaned over to kiss my hair. “You have no idea how good that sounds. Don’t worry. I have a plan.”

“A plan?”
