“Oh, shush,” Kira said, laughing a little as she ran her hands up over his chest, feeling the firmness of his pectoral muscles beneath her palms. “You know I’m talking about you. Stop fishing for compliments.”
“Well, just so you know, you can fish for compliments with me all you like,” Caleb said, as he wrapped his arms around her. “Though I hope you’ll never need to fish, and you’ll always know just how perfect, special, amazing, incredible –”
Kira couldn’t help herself – she stopped the flow of his words with her lips, pressing them against his, before opening her mouth, deepening the kiss.
It was just the same as every other kiss they’d shared so far – utterly breathtaking, in a way that never failed to make her stomach flutter, and heat rise within her. She felt Caleb’s arms tightening around her, drawing her close to his chest, the warmth of him chasing away even the memory of the cool air outside.
“Okay,” she gasped, when they finally parted. “There’s no way I can wait until we get home.”
“Well,” Caleb said, as he swept her up in his arms, carrying her off to the back room, “your wish is my command.”
Kira giggled, wrapping her arms around Caleb’s neck and resting her cheek against the warmth of his chest.
If there was a more perfect way for their story to end, she thought, as Caleb kicked the door closed behind them, then she definitely didn’t know what it was.
Because this is heaven.
