The Atlan looked down at her with wide eyes. He was even bigger than me and I approached, ready to protect my mate from the beast within him.

“Do you know how to use one?” he asked, a small smile playing at his lips.

“Don’t patronize me. I might be small, but I know how to shoot. I know how to kill.”

Kristin had killed before. I felt it, felt the cold chill of that truth and her strength made my cock harden. All that fire, that power, and she surrendered it to me.

“You will not take the Atlan’s weapon,” I told her, approaching. I placed a possessive hand on her shoulder. If the Atlan had any doubt she was mine, if the collar and the blue tunic were not enough, this would help. I only hoped that she still had our scent on her skin. Had she washed away Hunt’s seed? I hoped not. I wanted the beast to scent our possession of her, know the truth.

She was ours.

“Lady Zakar, I do not wish to offend. As the governor said, if your mate wishes you to have a weapon, then it is his decision, not mine.” He bowed and stepped back. Thank fuck I didn’t have to challenge him.

Kristin turned her narrowed gaze on me. “Your decision? You’re going to deny me the ability to help? What am I supposed to do, sit around all the time barefoot and pregnant and cook your dinner and rub your back after a long day at work?” She pouted like a little girl, pursing her lips out at me. I might have fallen for the ruse if I hadn’t felt her fury blasting me through the collar. “So, what is my job going to be here? Is my only job to fuck you and Hunt? Because you can use a blow up doll for that.”

I heard the warriors murmuring around us, but I didn’t turn my gaze from her. I wasn’t trying to make her angry, I just couldn’t give her what she wanted. I couldn’t allow her to risk her life, not for this.

“You are new here, Kristin. While we are well and truly matched, there is still much to learn. I had no idea about your function on Earth until now. I am impressed with your efforts, but it is my job—and Hunt’s—to keep you from harm. We are all here on the Colony because of the Hive, what they did to us. I will not let that happen to you. I cannot hand you a weapon and encourage you to walk into danger, to risk your life.”

“There’s danger everywhere. Hell, this ceiling could fall in and hurt me. I’m a grown woman, you can’t protect me from everything.”

“It is my greatest honor and privilege to try.”

She didn’t understand the depth of a Prillon’s possession. She saw it as oppression instead of devotion. But I would convince her. I would make her understand.

Pursing her lips, she narrowed her eyes. She was fast. I had to give her that. She had my weapon from my holster and her fingers wrapped around it before I could blink. Turning, she headed toward the door. It opened for her, but she didn’t make it a foot outside before I scooped her up in my arms, tossed her over my shoulder.
