ChapterEighteen

We are having a great time dancing and mingling with everyone. Solo introduces me to General Moses Knight, who’s Megan’s father and a good friend of Solo and his brothers. He is a very good-looking man, the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. Bree is also in attendance and her and I end up dancing together, which led to all the women dancing with us as well. My relationship with Savvy and True has improved over the weeks since Joseph and I have been together, and we have been building an amazing relationship. I feel like I have sisters for the first time outside of my relationship with T’Aundrea. T fits in with everyone; her personality won’t allow anyone to not like her, and her wife Angie fits right in too. We have all come out of our death-defying high heels and are wearing either flats or flip flops. Brooklyn and Lennox step out and perform some dance in step with each other, letting the rest of us know this is not the first time the two have done this dance together. It does not take us long to back them up, and next thing you know there is a sea of black women on the dance floor. I lock eyes with Solo as I execute the dance steps to the song and the heat in his eyes activates the arousal in me, and I feel damn near lightheaded. But as we turn, spin, drop it down and back it up I notice all the taken men are looking at their significant others with longing. Once the song goes off, we weave through the maze of tables to sit down and grab a drink. We pretty much take over the head table, but the guys don’t seem to mind.

“It’s hot, and I have no idea where I left my drink,” Bree pants out as she prepares to grab something else, but before she can, the general walks over and offers her one.

“You looked like you could use a drink,” he states as he offers her a glass. She looks over to me before she takes the drink.

“Sabrina, this is General Moses Knight. He’s Megan’s dad and a good friend of the brothers,” I tell her, simultaneously introducing them and letting her know she is in good hands, and she takes the drink from him. The next thing we know he has her at a table by themselves talking. We all look at each other and burst out laughing.

“I ain’t mad at her. The general is fine as hell!” True says as she fans her face.

“Ewww,” Megan says with her face scrunched up.

“Girl please, just because that’s your dad doesn’t mean he ain’t fine,” Brooklyn says and we slap each other up as we laugh at her fake gagging. But for the rest of the night, we all peep how the general is wherever Bree is. Looks like a love connection.

“Uh oh Savvy, looks like another love connection is going on over there,” I tell her, and we all look over to where Shepp is holding Isabella’s daughter as they dance to a slow song.

“It’s about damn time! He needs some stability in his life, especially now that he is taking over running Peter’s hotels. I do not want him to spend his life so occupied with his career he misses out on love.” We all nod in agreement.

“She’s beautiful, and she’s a hard worker according to Peter,” Lennox says when she finally gets away from well-wishers to join us at the table. A few seconds later, Bree rejoins us.

“And Shepp is a nice-looking young man,” Bree says when she sits down. “Savvy, do you think Saint would consider singing some nights at my club? The pay is pretty good.”

“I don’t see why not. Ask him. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind, but do not think you are just going to sit down and not spill your guts about the general over there acting like you’re the best thing since sliced bread!” Savvy says and we’re all in her amen corner.

“We’re having breakfast tomorrow morning. Megan, you have an amazing father.”

“I think so too,” she says shyly.

“Oh, and by the way we are also not going to ignore the way you and Aryan watch each other,” I put Brooklyn on blast.

“So, I wasn’t the only one that saw that! When no one said anything, I thought maybe I was the only one!” True says

“You definitely were not the only one!” Lennox agrees.

“Y’all are imagining things,” she says, looking anywhere but at us. “Besides I am not the only one who has a single Gideon man watching them, Ska….”

“You know Bree, this is an amazing band; they play at your club every night?” True cuts off Brooklyn mid-sentence. We look over at Savvy to see if she heard Brooklyn, but her attention is on Josh across the room who is watching her watch him, and Brooklyn takes the hint.

We sit in silence watching the guests and our men as women try and fail to get their attention. Just when we think we have seen it all tonight V.I.C.’s Wobble comes on and Peter dances his way to the dance floor.

“I know you lying!” I say and we all watch, mouths agape watching Peter dance the Wobble and if that wasn’t amazing by itself, the rest of the brothers, Shepp and Saint join him on the dance floor.

“OMG! Benny!” Lennox says and we all burst out laughing.

“Um, is it me or does this look like a challenge?” Megan says.

“I think you are right, and I say we go and show them how it’s done!” Skai declares and she pushes her chair back to stand and we all follow suit. We dance our way to the dance floor, but before we get all the way there, a man comes over and reaches for Megan, and she damn near knocks a table over to avoid any physical contact. Anson starts to come off the dance floor to probably kill the man who tried to touch her, but True whips around and grabs the man hands before he can try again.

“Keep your fucking hands to yourself! And I suggest you take your drunk ass somewhere and sleep it off before the gentleman over there,” she hooks her thumb in Anson’s direction, “removes both your hands and you won’t be able to touch anyone ever again.” His eyes follow to where Atlas is restraining Anson, and they take on a comical eye bugging look as he scurries out the door. And with that we continue to the dance floor.

We pair up accordingly, and Solo is in the back so he does not get in the way but is still dancing as much as the chair will allow. Anson has Megan safely with him, Skai is dancing with Jabarri, Aryan is with Brooklyn, Josh is tearing the dance floor up with Savvy and Atlas is showing True up. Jaasiel is dancing with one of Lennox’s former co-workers, Saint is with Mell and Shepp is with Isabella. Oh, did I mention that Bree is dancing with the general! But by far Peter and Lennox are the stars. Even though the men started this, we took it over. After the song ends, Solo pulls me off the dance floor and out of the ball room.

“Will you come with me for a second? I just want some time with you.”

I tell him, “Of course,” and he leads me out to the garden. We find a secluded corner bench and I sit down next to Solo.
