My heart swells as I glance over at Luke. My head is still spinning in disbelief at how well they’re taking everything.
“How about a celebratory dinner?” Mr. Callahan proposes.
“Sure,” Luke answers for us as he wraps an arm around my shoulder and looks down at me for confirmation, “but I think Lucy is more in the mood for Chinese, right, honey?”
I fight back a grin as I realize what he’s doing. He’s saving us from the embarrassment of having to walk back into the restaurant he just carried me out of.
“Right,” I agree.
“Chinese sounds great!” Mom chimes in happily, and I could kiss her for her exuberance.
I kiss Luke instead, the man who proved he wasn’t going to let anything stand in our way.
