“Leave me alone,” I tell him in as stern of a voice as I can muster. I hear my voice wobble at the end and pray he doesn’t.
He narrows his eyes at me suspiciously before he growls at me, “You don’t mean that, Lucy. You don't want me to leave you alone.”
“I do,” I lie before I turn and make my way quickly across the yard to my house.
Just like I did two days ago at the chapel, I turn when I get to the door. Luke is standing there with his feet spread apart, his hands balled into fists at his side. My heart trips within me at how fierce he looks.
The blue fires of his eyes blaze at me, and my heart aches as I slip into my house and close the door.
It's not fair. Luke is everything I never even knew I wanted, and I can't have him.
Because he's my stepbrother.
