He laughs then. When he finally sobers, his eyes gleam at me. “There’s no catch. I promise. My terms are simple enough. No loopholes. No fine print.”

When I still don’t say anything, he prompts me again, “So are you coming home with me tonight or going back to your apartment?”

“I have to decide right now?” I ask him incredulously.

“Yes,” he answers stoically. “I’m an impatient man when it comes to business. I don’t like to let deals sit on the table too long.”

“But,” I begin, “my mother…I have to tell my mom where I’ll be. She’ll be worried if I just don’t show up for thirty days. And my job…and I’ll need to get some clothes…”

He interrupts me with a wave of his hand, his eyes gleaming victoriously like he’s already won. “It’ll all be taken care of.”

I hesitate a moment longer. “What do you get out of all this?” I ask him.

His eyes hold mine as he answers frankly, “What I want.”

You.He doesn’t say it, but it’s implied. I still don’t understand since he says he won’t make me do anything sexual.

But why am I overanalyzing that? I should be glad he won’t make me do anything sexual. This is actually the deal of a lifetime. I just have to live in his sphere for a month, and I can save the lives of an entire building of people.

“Yes or no?” he prompts me one last time, his fingers starting to drum on the table in impatience.

It’s really a no-brainer.

“Yes,” I agree.
