Hid dad came closest to being Dimitri’s confidant, but even then, Dimitri had a habit of holding things back, for many reasons. The most important was that as great as his father was, the man had an agenda of seeing all his sons married, and Dimitri wasn’t giving him any ammunition for salvos in that direction.
Dimitri had never shared with anyone all that he experienced in combat. The two men who had experienced it all with him had not survived their final mission.
“What about Galena? I’m not asking you to dissect your past relationship,” she assured him before he could shut her down again. “I just want to know if you ever confided in her.”
The name of his ex-fiancée did not bring warm, fuzzy feelings to Dimitri at the best of times. When he was sitting on the couch with the one woman he had wanted for years, it was like a bucket of ice water.
“What is this fixation you have on who I share my secrets with?”
“Because we all have to have someone, and it worries me that you don’t.”
That answer surprised him enough he blurted out, “You think a woman who cheated on me and eloped with another man while I was in hospital would have been a good candidate?”
Dimitri might be the youngest, but it had been a long time since anyone evinced that kind of worry over him. He would have hated it from someone else but found patience for it with Jenna.
She was just that kind of woman. Despite her sarcastic demeanor, she cared about everyone.
“Clearly not, but the fact you didn’t trust the woman you asked to marry you says a lot.”
He was not sure what she thought it said, but Dimitri was certain that right now, he wasn’t interested in finding out. “I don’t understand how we got sidetracked by this kind of heavy discussion.”
This was not pre-kissing conversation. Not in his book.
“When you were just looking for a good night of bedroom gymnastics?” she teased, not sounding perturbed by the thought.
“A fantastic night, thank you.”
Her smile was filled with the kind of heat he didn’t mind getting burned by. “I could go for fantastic.”
CHAPTER FOUR
HEREACHEDOUTto do what he’d been wanting for a hell of a lot longer than he wanted to admit, and pulled her close, his body going from zero to Mach 1 in a single breath. “Fantastic it is.”
She didn’t wait for him to kiss her but leaned forward and pulled his head towards her at the same time. Her lips pressed against his, her body doing the same.
It was no tentative kiss, but pure sexual heat, their hands mapping each other’s body with urgency he hadn’t felt since he was still at university.
Sex was a necessary, delicious part of life.
This kind of sex made him feel like hewasalive.
She climbed into his lap, spreading her thighs over his and kissing him with the kind of unfettered passion he’d only dreamed of finding in a lover.
Literally. He had dreamed about this woman, waking up hard and aching, craving just this kind of sensual abandon from her.
They didn’t make it into the bedroom but stripped each other right there in the suite’s sitting room. Her breasts were gorgeous and full, rosy-tipped peaks tempting him.
She cried out when he took one in his mouth and suckled, undulating her hips against him. He was steel hard and aching to be inside her. Rubbing his erection against her slick opening, up and down, but without shifting so he could penetrate.
He had to get a condom on. Now.
She gasped and jerked backward. “Condom,” she gasped. “I’ve got one in my bag.”
He didn’t ask why. They’d both known how this night was going to end.
“Hurry,” he urged.
She jumped up and rushed to her bag, and dug through it, tossing things with abandon onto the table. She lifted a strip of condoms in her hand. “Yes!”
