“Lauren Vos,” Faith answers.
“I know her name,” I mutter.
“FBI. She’s been around, in and out for a while. I think she uses Cerberus as a place to crash between jobs. I don’t really know much else. Rumor is that Spade hit on her and somehow ended up tied to a chair or something.”
“Faith,” Legend says, and I can hear the warning in his tone, but silences as Grace and Grinch join us.
Grace gives me a small smile as she sits next to me, her man falling to the sofa on the other side of her. This is something I’ve noticed about Cerberus. If the man is spoken for, they aren’t going to put themselves in a position to be questioned. Faith is on one side of me and Grace is on the other. There would never be a situation where Grinch nor Legend would’ve sat directly beside me. If a spot was open and their significant other wasn’t there to take it, they’d stand. I can’t believe how much I long for that, and it makes me shift my eyes right back to Spade as if he’s the one I want that level of respect from.
I scoff, knowing the man doesn’t have it in him.
“I think I need another—”
My words fade away when Grace stiffens beside me.
“Baby?” Grinch asks, his eyes doing the same as mine as we follow her gaze to the man standing in the now open front doorway. “Who is that?”
I don’t know how more than a dozen men in different positions all over the room just know that something is going on, but a hush falls over the entire clubhouse, all eyes pointed at the massive man standing there with searching eyes as if he’s looking for someone specific.
There’s a dangerous air to him, and it has so much more to do with how the man carries himself than anything. He’s sexy as hell, muscles for days, and if several of the men weren’t advancing on him with scowls on their faces, I’d mistake the guy for Cerberus. This man is trouble. There isn’t a welcoming vibe at all to him, a contradiction to all the other men here.
Grace begins to tremble beside me.
“He’s… that’s… when I was kidnapped. He was the leader.”
Legend is off his feet in an instant, as Grinch stands and positions himself in front of Grace.
The man doesn’t look armed, but neither do the Cerberus men despite several with hovering hands near their waistbands.
Faith stands as well, wrapping her arms around Grace, and that seems to be what it takes for Grinch to prepare for murder. But before Grinch can hurt the guy, Thumper walks up, a look of pure disbelief in his eyes.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” Thumper snaps a second before he wraps his arms around the guy in a genuine hug.
Kincaid, the club president, steps forward as Thumper takes a step back. He doesn’t look impressed at all, but instead of saying a word, Kincaid turns around and walks toward the huge conference room doors.
As if planned, every one of the Cerberus members circles around the stranger, a silent escort across the clubhouse before the doors are closed, leaving everyone else in the room stunned.
Grace is crying on Faith’s shoulder, clearly distraught and terrified.
Cara, Thumper’s woman looks confused, eyes searching the room for answers no one is able to provide.
Lauren Vos looks like she’s seen a ghost.
Chapter 22
Spade
“You need to calm down or you’re going to be asked to leave,” Dominic, Kincaid’s brother, growls with his forearm against Grinch’s throat.
“That man—”
“Didn’t fucking touch her,” the stranger snarls.
“Maybe not, but you watched her fucking shower after abducting her,” Grinch rages. “You did nothing to help her. Fucking sold her to some fucking creep and just went on about your fucking day.”
“Someone better start fucking explaining,” Ugly says just as seething mad as Grinch is.
“He’s a mercenary,” Kincaid says.
