Bones made his way over to me after he finished up his conversation. “How’d that go?” he asked.

“Like you wouldn’t believe. The Devil Riders were trying to use her as a mole like I thought. She said she didn’t take the offer and I don’t know whether to believe her or not. I guess time will tell. I’m not taking any risks for us though.”

“You’re right, time will tell. I suspect she’s telling the truth. She came all the way down here to face you. I don’t think she would have done that, only to lie to you.”

I rolled my neck around as it clicked from all the tension I was holding. “I don’t know, man. Whatever. I’m going to head home. You good here, you hanging around?”

“Chin up, brother. There’s plenty more chicks out here if you feel like that. You’ll get another one. I have no doubt.” He chuckled as he patted me on the back.

Trouble was, I didn’t want another one, and my heart wouldn’t let me rest. I wanted to forget her, but she was unforgettable. I strolled over to my bike and mounted it. I cranked the engine letting the low throaty rumble fill my eardrums. I slid my helmet on and rode the short length home.

As soon as I stepped inside, my phone beeped again. I cursed, I was getting sick of it beeping.

A text message from Mia. Help. They saw us. Doc is threatening me. Please Numbers.

I texted her back. Who is they?

Her message made no sense. I slid my helmet off and set it down on the floor, so I could wait for her reply.

Five seconds later. The Devil Riders.

I snorted as I shook my head with disgust. She’d been having too many meetings with Doc. When did the Devil Riders have time to see me and Mia talking? I sat my phone down on the kitchen benchtop, determined not to message her back.

I wanted her, but a bridge stood between us now and I wasn’t sure I wanted to cross it.
