I couldn’t handle their feelings right now. I had to deal with what was in front of me. I dropped the sheet over the body, noting that the lips were blue and on the man’s face were a few scabs. I made the presumption that he was a heavy drug user, but the question was how the hell did he get in? Why didn’t anybody see him come in the front door? I know if they did, there’s no way they would have let him in. He might have even been homeless.

As I looked up, I saw a crowd forming around the bathroom door, so I moved them away. I didn’t want anyone coming near the scene. “Get back! Get back! Clear the area.”

The shaken lady stood off to the side at the end of the bar.

I stopped near her as I heard the other wail of the ambulance from the outside. Sounded like someone had already called it in. Next up would have to be the cops. This situation would work wonders for the club’s image. Not.

“Are you okay?” I asked her as I touched her arm.

“Yes, I’m fine.”

“Was he dead when you saw him?” I grilled her, not wanting to sound callous, but the moment had me completely rattled. One minute we were getting ready to have a friendly game of darts, the next we had a man who overdosed in our bathroom.

Shit.

“Yes, he was,” she replied with a tremor in her voice. “I just caught a glimpse,” she said crying.

I rubbed her arm. “You’re not on trial. I just wanted to know if you saw where he came from is all,” I explained.
