“Shit,” Duane muttered, shaking his head. “Give me a break, man. I just paid up on Monday.”
“Not Devil Riders,” Gunner clarified. “Come on, let’s talk.”
“Fine,” Duane agreed, but he didn’t look happy about it. “Come on.” He led Gunner away, presumably heading to his office.
The second they were out of earshot, Naomi turned to me with a scowl on her face. “Why in the hell did you do that?” she demanded to know.
“What?”
“Why did you have to interfere? I can handle myself. I always have.”
“Are you serious right now?” I asked incredulously.
“You’re just going to bring me more trouble.”
I could hardly believe her attitude, and before I could come up with a response, she turned around and walked out through the back door, leaving me standing there feeling utterly confused.
