Chapter Four: A Little Territorial

Bones

I could see Harper was upset about the drug dealing going on in the casino, but I was furious. This was Rebel Saints territory and we had made it clear to the cartel, gangs in surrounding cities, and all local dealers that we didn’t want this stuff going on in our city anymore.

Someone had ignored that. “Who are you working for?” I asked, rolling the man over again, and grabbing the lapels of his jacket. I yanked his face closer to mine and gave him my most fierce glare.

“N-no one,” the man stammered. He was a terrible liar.

I shook him a little, a noise coming from my throat that sounded like a growl. “I want to know who your supplier is, now!”

“Sir, I’m going to need you to let the man go,” the hotel’s security guard said.

I ignored him, keeping eye contact with the drug dealer.

“Bones.”

Harper’s soft voice got my attention. She sounded timid, maybe scared. That made me let go of the man. I didn’t want her to fear me.

The man flopped back onto the floor.

Glancing around, I saw that the other man, the one buying the shit, had gotten away unnoticed during the commotion. The security here wasn’t very good.

“I’ll need those drugs,” the security guard said as I stood.

“Of course,” I replied, stealthily tucking one packet into my pocket before handing over the rest as a second security guard arrived.

When I turned toward Harper, she had her cell phone pressed to her ear, calling the police.

Hawk and Charlie made their way through the gathering crowd, and I slipped away while Harper was distracted and security put their zip-tie handcuffs on the dealer.

“Let’s go,” I said, leading them out of the casino. When we got outside, I felt glad to see the protesters had called it quits for the day. Pulling the coke out of my pocket, I handed it to Hawk while we walked toward the parking garage next door.

“Yep, that’s coke,” Hawk said, disgusted. “Whoever is responsible for this, doesn’t respect our territory.”

Territory was crucial in the world of motorcycle clubs. We had strict rules about respecting our own territory and anyone else’s. One of the reasons the bottom of our patch listed our city and state. This made it clear to everyone that we were in charge of Holbeck.

“Can you find out where the drugs came from?” I asked him.

Hawk had been studying chemistry in college before he went to jail and the guy was crazy smart. If anyone could figure this out, it would be him.

“I think so,” he said, tucking the drugs into his own jacket. “Everyone has a unique signature, things they cut the drugs with. I should be able to give us some idea of the origin if I can get my hands on some lab equipment to analyze it.”

“I have a great idea for that.” I smiled and clapped Charlie on the back. “You’re lucky, kid. Your first night as a prospect and you get to help us solve a mystery.”
