“Oh … okay.”

“I like you, but I don’t do commitments. I never want to go down that road again.”

“You want to keep things casual?”

“Or we can stop seeing each other.”

Harper went quiet, her eyes focusing on something in the distance.

I could practically see her mind working as she thought about it. I knew she probably wanted to see a man she had a future with and if a casual relationship wasn’t going to work for her, I wasn’t going to give her a hard time about it.

“I want to keep doing this,” she finally said, as the Ferris wheel went around for the second time. “I can accept that it won’t be a serious relationship.”

I didn’t need to hear anything else. As the Ferris wheel carried us to the top once again, I put my arm around her shoulders, and she fit perfectly against me. Using a finger to lift her chin until she was looking up at me, I pressed my lips to hers.
