“Like your parents? I heard they will be coming to the baby shower.”
“Lucky you and, yes, they are very snobby. However, you can wear a bathrobe for all I care.”
“You are trying to prove to your father of your worth. So, let us do that and get you going in the business.”
“Kellan has already offered me work in the foundation with the hotels until we get our perfect paradise getaway complete.”
“Have to go now. Murphy is going to take away my cell.”
“She’s scary, you better go.”
“I am not.”Murphy texted from Sabrina’s phone.
On that note, they were gone. Murphy had obviously taken the phone. I was glad Murphy was taking her under her wing. Getting her ready to look the part, she would be better at. I should buy grown-up clothes myself. Never needed suits in school and my other suits are tuxedos.
I’ll ask Kellan where he buys his suits. Maybe he’ll pass the info along to my father. Either way, I have to thank Aunt Victoria again for the idea of the marriage.
The meeting we were in next hadn’t required much of my input and I found myself thinking about Sabrina. Murphy saying she needed to dress the part had me worrying how she would do with the whole family together. I knew Aunt Victoria’s crew wouldn’t be a problem. For that matter, my siblings would be okay as well. It was my parents.
What if they don’t approve of her? Do I care
ChapterFifty-One
SABRINA
When I told Cota that Murphy thought I needed to look the part, I was happy that he didn’t care one way or another, but he did say it was a good idea. I would do whatever would help him achieve his goal. It worried me even more that the clothes had no price tags. I was too embarrassed to ask, and Murphy did not care. The first store we’d been in, she convinced me to buy a pair of dress shorts and t-shirt. When I handed the credit card to the clerk, I almost pulled it back when she said that those two items totaled six hundred dollars.
How could that cost six hundred dollars? There must be cheaper stores.
“You ready to try on some more clothes?” Murphy asked from behind me. “This is a good store for something casual for the baby shower, then we’ll get shoes.”
“Murphy, should we spend this much money? I mean, the first outfit is very nice. Can I not wear that?”
“No, you cannot. Well, yes you could but, no, I’m not letting you.” See took my hand and pulled me with her. “You need to let me get you fixed up.”
“But it’s so much money.”
“Cota really wants to pamper you, so let him, okay?” She turned to look right at me. “I need you to start smiling and enjoy this. it’s like Pretty Woman.”
“Cota said that this morning, but I do not know of this Pretty Woman.”
“What?” she shook her head and held up her finger. “This will not do. Every girl should know Pretty Woman. That’s it, we are watching it tonight. Hold on. Watch this video.”
I took her cell phone and watched a video clip from the movie Pretty Woman. It was of her shopping with the man, trying on lots of beautiful clothes. I handed the phone back to her.
“It looks like they both are enjoying it.”
“Yes, you see? She is enjoying getting the clothes and special treatment and he is enjoying getting to pamper her.” Murphy crossed her arms. “Are you ready now?”
“I have one question,” I grinned. “Do we get to order pizza like she did?”
“Oh my God! Yes!” Murphy hugged me. “We can start with wine.”
The next few hours we went from store to store, buying clothes. Murphy had realized after buying stuff for the city and loungewear that I needed winter clothes. Winter was something I knew about, being from Russia. Surprisingly, to me, the stores we went to next had plenty of pretty jackets and sweaters. I spotted a zebra coat and walked straight for it.
“Is this one acceptable for a Hawthorne?” I held up the sleeve.
“It’s more than acceptable. I think I want one too.” She ran over to touch it. “Do you care if I get one too? We can be twins.”
