It was clear to see Sophie was overtired by now. I excused myself and followed Mia inside with Sophie. What Sophie needed was a nap and her medicine, or she would not be doing well enough to stay up tonight. With a shy, quick glance back at Trey, I walked through the doors, then paused.
“Thank you all so very much for inviting us into your home and your amazing family fun,” I said. “I’m going to join Sophie now. She’s a bit buggered. Sorry, I meant tired.”
Sophie played in the tub quietly while Mia and I sat talking. “So, when do they decide on the winning eggs for the charity ball?” I asked.
“I’m not sure, really. It’s my first Easter here too, but I thought I heard Victoria say all of the eggs go to the charity ball.”
“Oh, so then what?” I asked, noticing Sophie was not having fun anymore. “Sophie baby you want to get out now?”
“Yes, I’m tired. Will you lay down with me?”
“You bet I will… because why?” I asked but went on to answer. “Because I love you a million drops of water.”
“I love you a million bubbles.” Sophie giggled as she blew bubbles toward me.
“All right you, let’s get you out so we can rest, and then go to a big party later.” I held a towel up for her to get in.
“Aunt Mia, are you going to the big party too?” Sophie spun around in her towel. “Will Easter Bilby go to the party?”
“I don’t know if Easter Bilby will be there, but I will be, and we can show everyone all the beautiful eggs we made today.” Mia held her pjs up for her to get in. “Let’s go- we need our beauty sleep for tonight.”
“You get tucked in. I’m gonna go get you some water for you to take your medicine.” I held the blankets out for her. “Hurry, hurry.”
“Just hit intercom number 4 for the kitchen.” Mia pointed to the intercom by the bed. “Ask them for some water- they’ll bring it up pretty quick.”
“I can go get water myself.” I turned to the door.
“Hey Rebecca, can you bring up a few glasses of ice water to my sister’s room, please?” Mia hit the intercom and ordered. “Now stay with us and relax.”
“Look, I’m Easter Bilby.” Sophie bunny-hopped over to the bed, then under the blankets. “Get in Mummy, before the warm and cozy gets out.”
Within a few minutes there came a light knock on the door.
“Come on in,” Mia called out. “Oh hey, what’s up?”
“Who is it, Aunt Mia? It sounds like Easter Bilby but I can’t see him,” Sophie said from under the covers.
Crickey, she’s right. It does sound like Easter Bilby. How did I not notice that earlier? Trey was Easter Bilby.
Sophie threw the blankets back, exposing myself and Mia in the process. I’d spent the afternoon hunting Easter eggs with Trey and now I felt weird again when I realized he was the creepy staring bunny from this morning.
So why didn’t he tell me?
Chapter 17
Trey
Iwas standing in the kitchen with the twins when the intercom went off. I overheard Mia ask for glasses of ice water.
“Rebecca, just put them on a tray and I’ll bring them up for you,” I called out to her as she made the drinks. “I’m going that way now and I know you have a lot going on for tonight.”
“Thank you, sir.” Rebecca nodded and placed the tray on the island. “You will bring it right now though, right?”
“Yep, I’m going now.” I picked up the tray and nodded to the twins.
“I have some patients to check on, then I’m hitting the gym. Why don’t you two meet me in there?” I said.
“I have a wife that is expecting me to go for a walk with her and she gets serious about her walks.” August pointed to Asher. “But this one needs the gym- look at him.”
