“That’s okay. We don’t even have to move in together right away. We’ve got time.”
“I hear abut.”
“Yeah. But, I think we should get married. As quickly as possible.”
“Are you afraid I’ll change my mind?”
“Yes,” he said. And she had to laugh. Because she sort of was too. And she couldn’t really put her finger on why. No. She really couldn’t.
“You want to go get a marriage license tomorrow?”
“Sure,” she said.
“Do you want me to leave you alone tonight?”
She shoveled in the last bite of her dinner. “I don’t know.”
“I tell you what. I’m gonna stay.”
And he stayed on top of the covers, with her naked beneath them, and pulled her to him, holding her close. And that was how they stayed all night.
