“Sort of.” There was something he was not telling me.
“Dimitry, don’t keep me in the dark or lie to me.”
He exhaled deeply. “He kidnapped her and is bringing her to Russia to get her away from Malcome. That is all he said.”
“What?” I exclaimed in shock.
“He said both of them agreed the best recourse was for him to kidnap her and bring her to Russia.”
“Olivia agreed?” It didn’t make much sense to me. If she agreed, it was not exactly kidnapping. Maybe it was for appearance sake.
“Yes, that is what he said.”
“I guess they have a plan,” I muttered. “I trust Nikolai almost as much as I trust you, Dimitry. I know he’ll keep her safe.” How weird that all three of us would be back in Russia but not together, each one of us with a man. “You know, maybe I should thank Sergei. Thanks to him, it seems all three of us were saved by the three of you.”
“You certainly have an unique way of looking at things.” Dimitry’s voice was soft, his steel eyes melting when they lingered over me. I absolutely loved the way he looked at me. Like I was the most precious thing in the world.
“Courtesy of my mom.” Thinking about her still caused dull pain and guilt in my chest. He must have sensed it because his arms around me squeezed tighter.
“She must have been an amazing woman.”
My fingers trailed over his warm skin, loving every single touch and connection. It soothed me and set flame to my body at the same time.
“She was pretty amazing,” I spoke softly, the dark shadows continued dancing across the room with the flickering of the fireplace. “Ever since I could remember she’d tell me to look at the silver linings in life. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems.” I searched his eyes, wondering if he understood what I meant. He nodded, and it was amazing how much his comfort meant. “When I was a kid and acted bratty about eating my veggies or a toy I couldn’t have, she’d have me search up children who struggled even getting one meal a day, or never had a toy. But when you never experience it, it is hard to imagine it, you know. I was pretty spoiled,” I murmured slightly ashamed remembering how spoiled I acted when I was a kid. “Finally, my mother had enough. She took me with her to pay a visit to a woman; she just had a baby and was really sick. Until that moment, I truly thought everyone had everything I had. That was all I saw around me. My friends had similar big houses, similar amounts of toys, clothes, and staff around the house.”
Taking a deep breath, I paused. I didn’t like thinking of myself as spoiled but I couldn’t erase that my childhood was very easy and comfortable compared to a lot of others.
“The sick woman lived on the rough side of town. My mom rang the doorbell and this little girl, younger than me, opened the door. It was a cold winter that year and I remembered feeling shocked seeing her barely dressed. But I thought, maybe it was warm in their house. It wasn’t. There was no electricity. I’ll never forget that feeling. All my mother’s words didn’t hit me until that moment, they all came rushing in like a wave. The little girl wore barely any clothes because she didn’t have warm clothes. The place was mostly empty, there was a bed in the living room and both mother, baby, and daughter slept in it. The eyes of the little girl stayed glued on me, in my perfectly matching clothes and my American Girl babydoll in exactly the same outfit I wore. She brushed her finger across my doll like she was made out of gold. While on my way to their house I cried to my mother, I wanted another one and threw the doll across the car.”
I felt shame at this admission knowing he probably had a childhood without any luxuries. But there was no judgment in his eyes.
“When you don’t know anything else, it is hard to relate.” His understanding after what he went through was amazing. “What happened next?”
“My mom examined the little girl, her mother, and the baby. I think my mother was working something up with the woman to get her moved or something. It was hard to understand what they were talking about. The little girl and I played with my American Girl doll. Well, she did because I felt ashamed of my behavior and realized how many things I had that I didn’t deserve. Then we left, and I left my doll with her. You know, she still has it to this day.”
He nuzzled his head into my neck. “You still talk to her?”
“Yes, we meet up at least once a year. She and her mother came to Mom’s funeral, then we stayed in touch.”
“What did your mom do?” I looked at him in surprise but then realized I never told him.
“She was an ER nurse and volunteered a lot of her time,” I couldn’t help but be proud. “She was amazing and excellent at her job. That’s how she ended up traveling all over the world. She even spent a year or so in Russia.”
“You are just as amazing. She’d be proud,” he said and followed up with a light kiss but those words made tears sting in my eyes so I quickly blinked. I wanted to ask him if he knew anything about his parents at all but I didn’t want to cause him hurt. I knew how much it could hurt.
It was as if he read my mind though. “When I was about sixteen or so, I went in search of my parents.” I raised my head, watching him. He didn’t seem sad, just somehow detached. “Eventually, I found the woman that gave birth to me.” I noted he didn’t saymother.“She was a junkie and a prostitute. She wasn’t sure which guy was my father and wished she’d just aborted me.”
My hand went to his stoic face, placing my palm against his cheek. “But she didn’t and you are here. I’ve never met anyone like you, Dimitry.” His grey eyes met me and I leaned closer to him for a kiss. “I don’t care who your parents are or where you came from. It is who you are now that counts.” Then I couldn’t help but to tease him. “Even though you threatened me with my first whipping… the exact words were a whip on a bare ass or pussy, my choice.”
I realized my voice turned huskier. I couldn’t help but feel turned on by just thinking about it, feeling a throbbing ache between my thighs.
He raised his eyebrow, his beautiful lips curving into a smile. “Oh, yeah?”
Pressing my thighs together didn’t help my throbbing ache. “It didn’t feel like a threat though. And you did promise, I’d like it. Could we try it?”
It must have been the right thing to say because I swore Dimitry’s eyes lit up like diamonds. His hand grabbed my nape and his mouth crashed on mine. “What did I do to deserve you?”
“You saved me and then you threatened to whip me. So I’m hooked.” I rubbed myself against him, a trail of wet desire pooling between my thighs for this man. It would seem I was a junkie when it came to Dimitry.
