“Yes, I’m sure. Be careful.”
“I’m so happy you are okay,” she muttered. “We have to get to Olivia soon.” I agreed wholeheartedly with her.
“We’ll get her.” I assured her. “When Sergei comes to you, he knows how to contact me.”
“Okay. Love you.”
“Love you too. Bye.” I pressed the end call button and handed the phone to Sergei.
He watched me with suspicion in his eyes. “Why did you tell her I wasn’t the one who kidnapped you?”
“I did it for her,” I told him annoyed. “Not you. Don’t make me regret that.”
A smile spread over his face, and his eyes twinkled. “You have a big heart,” he told me softly. “Or you like me.”
I rolled my eyes at him. “Don’t push me, Sergei. And I certainly don’t like you anymore!”
But it was an empty threat. I wasn’t going to destroy his chance with Scarlett from the get go. Although he might have done that himself already. If I was being honest, I did like him. After all, I told him less than twenty-four hours ago he would be a good match for Scarlett. But I couldn’t easily forgive this.
I turned to Nikolai and Dimitry, at the loss of what to do now. “Now what?” I spread my arms and they fell down my body.
Nikolai and Dimitry shared a glance without a word both nodding at the same time, then Dimitry spoke up. “We’ll have to move again today. Give whatever you can to Sergei for pain. We’ll have to split men. Some will go with him, some with you and me.”
Glancing at Nikolai, I asked. “What about Nikolai?”
“I’m going to D.C. and will see what I can do to help your friend, Olivia.”
In disbelief, my hand went to my chest as I stared at Nikolai. It never occurred to me to ask Nikolai to save Olivia.
Nikolai could save her. He was a total badass.Hope swelled in my chest.
I threw myself into Nikolai’s arms. “Thank you!”
“Whoa, don’t thank me yet.” His voice was soft, so contrary to his harsh face and his strong arms around me. “I’m not making any promises but I’ll do what I can to help her.”
Nodding, I took a step backwards. “I know,” I murmured. “No pressure. But I totally know you can do it.”
He chuckled softly. “I thought you said no pressure.”
God, I really liked this group of men. Although their past was turbulent, deep down they were good men. Sergei was on my shit list but I even liked him.
“I need to send you a picture of Olivia so you can spot her,” I told Nikolai.
“Don’t worry,” he replied with a smile. “I know how she looks. We got the footage from Russian Orchid, with all three of you.” It made sense that they would. These guys covered all their bases.
A wide smile spread on my face. Although Boris and his men were after us, I had hope now, and sometimes hope was what got you through. My eyes traveled to Dimitry’s tall frame. Who would have known that when he threw me into his car, it would lead us here? I wanted to go back into his arms and wrap my arms around his body, feeling his strong arms around me protecting me.
Dimitry said he and I would go somewhere while Sergei and Nikolai went separate ways to take care of Scarlett and Olivia.
We will be alone,I thought excitedly to myself. I wanted to learn more about him, get to know him better. He set flames of desire to my body unknowingly. Or maybe he knew and was waiting for the right moment to make a move. He definitely set off fireworks for me!
“So what’s the plan?” I asked with a happy smile on my face. “Should I pack again?”
The next five hours, there was so much commotion and many preparations as new plans were laid out with the latest developments. It was dinner time, and all the guards already ate, leaving four of us seated at the table as the sun slowly descended.
“Are you feeling okay, Sergei?” I asked him. I cleaned up his wound one last time, gave him a shot of muscle relaxant along with pain medicine. I had to give it to these men; they certainly had a little bit of everything as part of their medical supplies.
I guess it comes with this kind of lifestyle,I thought to myself. It was actually smart of them to be prepared for anything.
