My head snapped to him. “How?”
Dimitry stopped the conversation. “First we would have your word that you are staying with me until it is safe for you to leave.”
“I can’t give you my word until I know the plan.” I wasn’t born yesterday.
“You have my promise, we will come up with a plan on how to help your girlfriends,” Dimitry was a tough negotiator. “We’ll reach out to our contacts and feel out the situation as soon as we get back to the cabin. But I want your word you are staying with me and won’t try something stupid.”
They knew more about what to do in this situation than me. Their help would be valuable, and the fact they found me probably spoke volumes of their contacts. I watched him, trying to decide whether I could trust his word. As if he read my thoughts, he added, “I never break my promise.”
Nikolai and Sergei chimed in, “You have our promise too.”
Somehow it didn’t surprise me they kept their promises. Must be a macho man thing… regardless of how tough they were.
I exhaled, although I wasn’t sure if it was a relief or slight anxiety. “Okay, you have my word, I will stay with you until it’s safe to leave.”
“Thank fuck,” Sergei mumbled, swaying on his feet. “I don’t think I can stand much longer.”
“Your own damn fault for insisting on coming along,” Nikolai retorted dryly as he took his arm over his shoulder.
Dimitry did the same on the other side, then he glanced at me before they started walking. “Come along, Anastasia. Don’t want you to get an idea of escaping.”
I promptly blushed since it was exactly what crossed my mind at that moment.
“Want me in front of you?” I uttered sarcastically but realized as soon as I said it that it sounded way suggestive.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Dimitry
The image her words brought to my mind instantly made my cock harden. Her graceful back against my chest, her soft skin under my fingers. I wanted to bend her over the bed and pump into her hard, punishing her for even thinking about leaving my protection.
“Okay, you two,” Nikolai scoffed. “Leave your dirty talk for when we are not around.”
She shook her head and went ahead of us but stayed within my sight.Smart woman.
She was too good to be involved in this world. Truthfully, somehow she got pulled into this dangerous world when she was a kid despite her completely different upbringing and social status.
Admittedly, now that I tasted Anastasia, I wanted more of her. Maybe we could just give into this attraction and then we’d both be on our way once she was safe.
Yeah, right! You’ll never have your fill of her.You want to ravish her, devour her, make her your whole world. She’d become your whole world. The words of the gypsy woman that read my palm kept coming back to me.
Did she see Anastasia in my future?
We walked in silence, the only thing breaking it were our footsteps and Sergei’s slightly heavy breathing. He should have listened to Anastasia. Last thing we needed was for him to get worse.
When we arrived back at the clearing in front of the cabin, Anastasia’s steps slowed down and she glanced backwards. “Take him back to bed. I’ll go wash my hands and will be right over to check him.”
“We want to talk about the plan to save your friends,” Sergei objected. “No?”
I could see the struggle on her face. She chewed on her lip wanting to do the right thing but unsure which onewasthe right thing.
“I’ll check your vitals and then we can talk in your room,” she replied softly, the doctor in her winning the battle. Her gaze traveled to me, and when I nodded, her eyes traveled to Nikolai.
Once we all agreed, she nodded and entered the cabin. Ten minutes later, we were all seated in Sergei’s room after Anastasia examined him.
“Tell us everything you know,” I ordered her. Ironically, just four days ago I said the same thing to her father.
“Everything?” Her voice was low. “I’m not sure where to start.” Her eyes looked seriously between three of us. “Okay, but whatever I say cannot be used against them or their families.”
