I ignored him. We both knew the things we’ve done. She saved people; I killed them. Tonight was a perfect example of our differences. She witnessed me take a man’s life earlier today and many more lives tonight. And look what she did! She healed Sergei and our other men. I was a sinner and she was a savior!

We stopped in front of Sergei’s room and found Anastasia sitting in the chair next to his bed. Her legs were tucked under her and she twisted her body, placing her head on the arm rest, a small throw blanket over her. She looked so fragile and pulling her into my world could break her.

Her world wasn’t much safer. Her father said you are the only one who can keep her safe.My mind whispered all the things I wanted to hear so I could make her mine. She is strong!

“She’ll stand by you, Dimitry,” Nikolai added. “If you only let her in.”

I went to the chair and lifted her small body into my arms. Her eyes snapped open and our gazes met. She was my storm and my calm.

“Hey,” she murmured sleepily, her lips curving into a small smile.

“Hey.”

“Hey,” Nikolai added amused. He never joked around but around Anastasia he somehow found humor. “Oh, you weren’t greeting me. Sorry.”

Anastasia turned her eyes to him. “Hey, Nikolai.” Then she turned into a doctor as she continued. “Sergei will be good. I gave him some medicine an hour ago so he should sleep for the next eight hours. His wound is clean and his fever is low.”

Nikolai nodded. “I got it from here.”

“You should get some sleep,” she told him. “He’ll be asleep for a while.”

With a nod, we left him and I took her to our room.

Our room?Where did that thought come from? But there was no doubt in my mind, I wanted everything to be ours with her.

I placed her gently on the bed.

“Where are you sleeping?” Her voice was a whisper. I stared at this beautiful woman in front of me, fighting the urge to pull her to me and tell her I’d sleep next to her for as long as she’d let me. Now this was a joke… tough and dirty sinner billionaire that didn’t even know who his parents were, drooling over a woman.

“On the couch,” I told her.

“This bed is big enough,” she scooted over as if trying to prove her point. “And if another explosion happens, I want to find you when I reach for you.”

She reached for me when the explosion happened?

“I’ll take a quick shower,” I told her instead, and I meant it, it would be a quick shower.

She nodded and curled up into a ball.

“I took a shower a few hours ago,” she muttered, closing her eyes.

By the time I was done with the shower, I was sure she’d be asleep. But when I opened the door, her heavy eyelids opened and she gave me a dreamy smile.

Fuck,I wasn’t sure even as tired as I was whether I’d be able to keep my hands off of her.

Chapter Eighteen

Anastasia

Dimitry was sinfully hot.

His chiseled abs and chest were covered in ink, and although I was so tired that I could barely keep my eyes open, my libido responded immediately. He also had ink covering his upper left leg, from his knee to his thigh, but I couldn’t quite distinguish the type or shape of the tattoos. His body was a Greek sculpture, not an ounce of fat on him. There was a hint of a scar on his upper left shoulder, although it was hard to determine what it was with all the ink he had.

Damn, was it hot in this room or what?

“If you keep looking at me like that,” his deep voice shook me out of my trance. I forced myself to stop staring at his body and raised my eyes to meet his, “I’m afraid I won’t let you sleep.”

And it promptly got a few degrees hotter. I licked my lips, wondering how he would taste. The kiss he gave me amidst our getaway was just an itsy-bitsy preview.
